When did you have your first alcoholic drink after your surgery ?!

In my program, they told us not to drink for a year after surgery. So I'll be able to drink on 2/15/17!

I had a small glass of wine on Christmas, 6 months after surgery. I didn't have anything else for at least another 6 months.

Not drinking was a prerequisite of my agreement with the surgeon for as long as he is seeing me. Now the deal is, he will see me every 6 months for a couple of years and annually after that, so doing the deal requires me not to drink unless, of course I let him go. :)

I had a couple of drinks 5 weeks after surgery and the hangover was intense! Much worse than before the surgery.

6 months.

In addition to not wanting to put extra acid in my still-healing new sleeve, I didn't want to add any empty calories in my first six months post-op, which is the easiest / fastest weight-losing period. I was not a fast loser and was uber-focused on being successful long-term.

Yes, the sleeve is a great tool -- and without it, I couldn't have lost 100 pounds. But my greatest tools post-op have been and will be focus, planning and discipline.

That's a hard truth for some to hear.

8 weeks to give it a test run. No issues.

12 weeks to enjoy occasionally on weekends.

It's something that I can take or leave. Only time I really actually "want" it is if going out for a leisure meal....aka "date night" where relaxing and winding down is the order of the day.

No longer drink beer and glad for that. Tremendous source of "hidden" calories right there. I'd never considered the amounts until they were no longer being consumed.

Skinny margaritas or high grade sipping whisky on the rocks is what I'll have now and in much smaller quantities than before.

My sibling lost 20 pounds just stopping beer.

4 months glass of wine

5 months Bloody Mary (didn't sit well and couldn't finish it)

6 months vodka cocktails

Since then I've had everything from Twisted tea to Apple Crown, vodka, rumchata, Kahlua, wine, bloody Mary's, margaritas, and flat hard cider. Mostly just on vacation or over holidays.

Unfortunately Alcohol does not effect me any differently than preop....I can still outdrink a football team. I was really looking forward to being a lightweight, but unfortunately am not. I was an alcoholic preop....drank every day, got seriously drunk on the weekends. I often drank more calories than I ate. But now the calories just aren't worth the buzz. I basically treat it like any other carb....limited occasions and in moderation.

I had a glass of red wine at the weekend. I hated it really and I was one that pre op drank every night ( at least a full bottle )

It tasted strong and acidy and not nice. It was a relief tbh as I would prefer not to drink much anymore. I wont bother again till I go on vacation in May

Hi, I'm after 2 weeks of surgery and I had few sips of beer very slowly and nothing happen to me, just don't over do it cause beer can make you feel numb and think you can drink more!! And also feeling hungry afterwards!! But otherwise I'm fine!! :)

I was around the three month mark. I usually stick with wine, but on occasion will have a mixed drink. I keep the quantity low as I get buzzed very quick. I am also aware that when having a filly drink that I'm consuming sugars and carbs that I don't need. So I use the reminder as a deterrent from having them often, or for finishing/nursing the drink.

      On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
      Soooo I am coming to a realization
      of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

        Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

        Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

        I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

        I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

        BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

      Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
