When Did You Get Your First Fill

Recommended Posts

At my 2 week post op check up, the Dr said he would see me in 6 weeks and likely get my first fill. I asked if this is an automatic thing and if not what determines if I get a fill or not. He said about 75% of patients get their first fill about 8 weeks post op. However he said if weight loss continues to be OK then he might consider not filling at all.

By the way since I began this "journey" in June I have lost 42 lbs; 20 lbs in the 2 weeks post op.

When did you get your first fill?:ranger:

I got my first fill at 4 weeks and second at 7 weekds! Under fluorscopy. 1cc the first time...and 3/4cc the second in a 4cc band! Good luck!

I got my first fill 6 weeks post op and I like many other would have loved it sooner! By god I'm glad I didn't. After my fill I came home and on the second day ate something that got stuck, which I'd heard about. I was in inmence pain and threw up non stop for 6 hours! I've been back to my clinic and all is well now, but I'm so glad I didn't have that experience on a 2 week old operation. At least I gave my body time to heal and I would have dreaded to think what dammage I could have done other wise! You sound like you have a very sensible doctor. Just remember when you get a fill, it is totally different, to just having the band, please please learn from my horrible mistake, small bites, CHEW!!!!! and slow down for goddness sake. I wouldn't want anyone to go what I went through.

All the best X

I think 6 weeks post-op is pretty standard but you won't necessarily need one. There are some people who still have a lot of swelling and don't need one for 8-12 weeks. Others are famished and wished they could have done it week 3. It just depends.

I was banded 1/19/07. I got first fill on 4/11 and second on 5/23. Started feeling good restriction after the second but I think that I may need another soon.

Up to now I have taken it very slowly and "by the book" following the Dr's guidelines. Although I don't feel the need for PBing, I ate some thinned oatmeal a bit fast once and felt some pain under my ribs that told me I have to slow down and let the funnel drain. I think with that REMINDER I can do OK and hope not to get a very drastic fill if I get one at all if I am losing weight.

I was banded on March 26th; received my first fill under fluoro on 5/16 (0.8 cc's); second fill in doctors office on 7/5 (0.5 cc's) and my next appointment is on 8/16 which I hope to get another fill. I am four months post-op and have only lost about 30 pounds. I have very little restriction and I'm hungry all the time. I work (out cardio/weight training) five days per week and I'm just not losing at the rate many others are.

I can eat ANYTHING as long as I chew very well and slowly. pizza, bread, Cereal, Pasta.....I can tolerate anything in small amounts

I seem to be losing in lump sums instead of a steady 1 pound per week target. I lost 20 pounds during my post-op liquid/mush phase, then didn't lose any for another 4 weeks. Then lost 7 pounds, then nothing for another 3 weeks, then lost another 3 recently.

I'm hoping my surgeon and I find my sweet spot soon, because I am getting very frustrated with the hunger, lack of restriction and lack of steady weight loss.

What the heck is PBing??

PBing? I had wondered that too and learned from other posts that PB stands for "productive burp" and can involve mild throwing up particularly if something gets stuck.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
