Low BMI slow losing encouragement welcome!

I'm low BMI and just Monday had my three-month surgiversay and I've only lost 30 pounds. I'm thrilled with it but after so many stalls hoping I'm not frittering away my honeymoon period by not being super strict.

Just wanted to see if I'm on track with other low BMI people. I know not to compare (when I see 60 lbs off in 3 months!!!) so would just like to hear from other low BMI October people if possible.

Thanks for understanding!

  • My starting BMI was 40, so probably higher than yours. I lost 17 pounds the first 3 months and I was thrilled because I LOST 17 POUNDS! This is not a race or a competitive sport. You're sabotaging

  • I was sleeved on 9.30.15 and have lost 41 lbs so far. I saw my nutritionist last week and expressed to her that I felt I was losing slowly. She reassured me that I started at a lower BMI so weight los

So jealous of yalls pre op diets! Mine was full liquids :(

Still on them too until Tuesday! Can't wait to start soft foods then. I was sleeved 1/27/16

Did you lose on your pre op? How much?

Atleast you're in full liquids for a shorter duration. I 3 weeks full liquids, and 3 weeks of pureed. My procedure is the 23rd :/

Hi everyone,

I'm finally back for an update! I had been in the typical stall for quite some time, so was hesitant to post too much and come across pessimistic.

Here's a recap. Had my surgery January 9th in Mexico. BMI was 29, weighed in at 153.4 (only 5'1) on January 1st when I started my pre-op. I had an easy pre-op, basically just did Protein shakes for Breakfast and lunch and then veggies and chicken for dinner. Three days before surgery was yogurt only diet, but I did add a Protein shake once a day just to keep my protein up and my carbs down. Day of surgery I weighed 148.4 lbs, which put my BMI at 28.

I went down to Mexico on the day of surgery and spent a few days in San Diego afterwards. First time I weighed myself on my home scale I was 139.2 and that was on January 17th.

Jan 18 - 137.2

Jan 19 - 137.0

Then my weight started to bounce around and stall out so I stopped weighing daily.

Feb 1 - 137.6.

I started working out Feb 1, scale was still moving super slow, so again just weighed every once in a while

Feb 5 - 136.0

Feb 23 - 135.2

Then I went on vacation to California. Just got back last night and I weighed in this morning at .... 129.0!!!!!! That puts me at a BMI of 24.4, the high end of NORMAL WEIGHT.

Why did I finally drop? I don't exactly know, but here's two things that probably helped.

1. I ate out a lot, and although I didn't eat lots at a time, my calories were definitely higher, so I think that actually helped boost my metabolism.

2. I got super sick the second last night, stuck in the bathroom (sorry if this is TMI - but basically all night pooping and puking --- although it was mostly dry heaving since there was no food in me). So I probably am down quite a bit of Water weight, and fully expect I may gain a couple pounds once I get hydrated again and eating somewhat normal.

Anyways, I just wanted to post an update since it's been a while, and I feel like I may have finally broken this stall. I am less than 6 lbs above my lowest weight as an adult. Still 14 lbs above my goal weight, but that being said, I am looking forward to increasing my exercise and putting on muscle, so realize it may be difficult for the scale to drop steadily if I'm toning up.

Hope everyone else is doing well!

--I am going to copy and paste this post to a few of the other "low BMI" threads, so sorry for the repeat to those of you that follow those threads as well--

I was sleeved on Jan. 7th and had a low BMI of 36.5 I'm around 6'0 & went from 268 to 253 on pre-surgery diet. I couldn't lose more or my BMI would've gone too low (under 35)for my insurance approval. So, lost 15lbs in pre-surgery diet. At then end of month 1, I was 234 & tomorrow will be month 2 & I'm 218. Lost 50 lbs in 2 months (including the two weeks of protein shakes pre-surgery). I have not denied myself food post-sleeve--if something looks great, I have 1 bite of it (which is about all I can hold! Just 1-4 bites lol!) I have exercised 30-45 minutes nearly every day since 2-3 days post-op though. I will say that 2 weeks ago I really assessed myself--I'd been traveling to some wonderful hotels & snacking on cheese plates & some other foods that weren't the lowest in calorie, but having them in very, very small quantities. My scale was sitting still, so I tried to become very aware of cleaning it up to protein shakes, cottage cheese, baked chicken & protein soups. I went down 4-5lbs in one week. I'm really aware that this Surgery is just a tool & I have to make good decisions in my diet & exercise regimen. I'm sure I'll get distracted again & have to come back to that awareness.

I will say that I look forward to reaching my goal & going into the maintenance phase where I have a little more freedom w/ the food. My mother is 1.5 years post-sleeve and she lost 147 lbs in 10 months--she's 5'8 & went from 275 to 128 & this sounds crazy, but she's struggling to keep weight on. She swears her pouch is tiny--she's ALWAYS eating. I don't think that'll be my case!!!

I'm just 2 weeks post op as of today. And I've lost 14lbs. I started at 223 and a bmi of 34. Then lost 9lbs. Then went on the preop diet and lost 10lbs and at 204 on surgery day with a bmi of 32. I've lost 12lbs since surgery and am now at 192lbs and a bmi of 30! I can't wait to see what the next few months bring!
