I told them I needed surgery (didn't say what) and took a week and a half off. I wish I would have taken a full 2 weeks or maybe even 3. I was just so tired and would have dizzy spells at work bc I wasn't concentrating on getting my fluids in. But you'll find that everyone will give you a different answer bc everyone recovers differently. Good luck!

I am thinking the same not to tell them what it is for just that I need the time off for the surgery am hopeing that when my time comes I will recover fast ????

I was off for a week, but I personally felt better by getting up and getting back into some routine. It seems like 2 weeks is pretty common though. I felt pretty much back to normal after the first few days, just very tired.

I took off one week, I'm suppose to go back tomorrow. 1 week post op, still hurting pretty bad with one incision (the one they removed the stomach through) I may play it by ear this week and take it day by day. Definitely not ready for tomorrow.

I'm a supervisor and spend half the time at my desk and the other half on my feet, lots of up and down. I had surgery on a Tuesday and back at work on Monday. First week was tough but not impossible by no means, if getting time off isn't an issue take the 2 weeks.

I took 4 days, but only technically 2 work days. I had surgery on Friday and was back to work on Tuesday. My job is in a large hospital doing a fair amount of walking. Guess what the doctor was recommending. Walk Walk Walk. So with that, I was walking as much as possible and the gas pain was gone fairly quickly. That is not to say that I got home and wasn't tired, but it worked out well. I got a 1 week course extension for my class though because there was no way to come home and just keep going. It worked out really well for me.

Do what you think is best for you. I had the option of adding extra days if I needed more time. And no one knew about the reason for my days off, not even that I was having surgery at all. And when I got back, that next week no one could tell I had anything done, and therefore no one asked. They just assumed I took a long weekend.

My job is mostly desk work. I would have been fine going back after 1 week. I was out for 3 weeks because I had the time and needed to use it or risk losing it. If you have the time, I'd recommend 2 weeks. If you don't have much time off to take, you should be fine after ~1 week barring any complications.

Do you do physical work or do you sit behind a desk? I'm hoping to be off for 7 days and back to work because I do office work. Other than the soreness, how is everything else going? How are you tolerating fluids? Have you lost any weight?

@@Leslie11 I also do office work, I still have bouts of dizziness and being really tired. I can tolerate liquids pretty good, pudding and creamed Soups.

As of this morning, I've lost 10lbs post op

im a therapist and doctorate student. Was at work a week after surgery. I walk a lot, work in a clinic and have to get clients from lobby downstairs and take to rooms, in addition to going to get files/paperwork, etc. I was fine. Just walked a little slower than usual.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
