Options Prgm with Kaiser

Recommended Posts

My insurance already authorized it. Otherwise I wouldn't be in the program. To get a date, I need to have my consultation with the surgeon. I can't get my consultation until I get birth control. I won't get birth control until the 29th. So yeah... Like I said, I am delayed.

My insurance didn't authorize until I completed the lifestyle classes and finished all my testing. Once my surgeon called me to let me know insurance okayed the operation, that same phone call was when I set the date. I was in the program for 6 months before even getting authorized for insurance. Maybe different insurances do it differently?

Yeah I think so.. This is for Kaiser Options program. It was for 12 weeks. Man, 6 months sounds like a long time. Then again I thought 12 weeks was long but I made it. Lol

I go in today for me pre-op education center appointment. Does anyone know what they do and how long it takes? I already had my preop with the surgeon.

Thanks!

In less than two days is the big day huh... How exciting! So what happened in the education center? What did they tell you? What did you have to do? Are you doing liquids today? How long were you there?

As far as the education center...it wasn't anything. I was in and out in 30 minutes. Basically they gave me pamphlets, took my blood again. That is pretty much it. Yes I'm on liquids since yesterday. I'm waiting for a call today to get my surgery time.

Well.. Good luck.. God willing, everything will go great and your weight loss will jump start. I'm happy for you.

I just got the birth control that they required me to get, I think because I have no kids but I can't say for sure. My referral has been sent, so now I have to wait. I hope I get mine at least before June 1st.. Wish me luck.

By the way, I hope you don't mind if I ask questions about how your surgery went. I know you'll be in recovery but when you feel better. Have a stress free day and I'm sure everything will go well.

I added you to my IG but it's private so I'm waiting..

Anyway, I'm sure you had surgery already. How are you feeling? How long did it take?

I finally got my call today. My consultation is May 12. I'm so excited. I'm so close I can feel it!

I had Dr. Zane and congrats on the consult! Dr Mun is supposed to be awesome...I just know he is stricter with the preop weight loss and I didn't lose enough so I went with Dr Zane. He was a little abrupt at first but then he warmed up to me. Everything went okay....I'm in a lot of pain and feeling a bit down but I'm hoping to get over it really soon.

What do you mean stricter? Oh man. I gained a few pounds that I'm desperately trying to lose before Thursday. I don't think I'm going to make it before weigh in. You think he will postpone my surgery date?

Well... I panicked.. And just called... I changed it to Dr Zane for Friday instead of Dr. Mun on Thursday. I have an extra day to lose more weight. Lol I thought it was going to take another week for the different doctor.

BTW how much weight did you lose by your consult date. I tried adding you to Instagram but I guess you declined my request.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
