How much time did everyone have to take off of work?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone! My surgery is next Friday, 1/22, and I was wondering how many days everyone took off of work after surgery? I'm a middle school teacher so I can really sit for a lot of the day. I was just trying to see what you would suggest. :)

I only took a week off. I was tired when i came back but other than that, it was fine. I have a desk job but if i did something with alot of moving around i might have needed a few more days.

I just noticed you are having the band....I had the sleeve. Its possible you will recover faster. I had a co-worker that had the band and I think she only missed 2 or 3 days of work.

I took a weeks vacation - personal time off....

Surgery was Monday, I was climbing the walls by Thursday and had to get out and do things.

Back at the gym after a week.

My doctor said I will need 1-2 weeks off.

Mine told me some people have it done Friday and go to work Monday and others need up to a week so I guess I'll just see how I am.

I had my surgery the 9th, went back today, which is day nine. I've been fine at home, meeting Fluid and Protein goals. Working today should have been a breeze but I had trouble with nausea for the first time. I'm a nurse but don't do patient care. Half my time is in my office and the other half is up on patient floors. I also work ten hour days and I have to say, it was a little much for me today. Tomorrow I will probably try to avoid walking around so much.

I took a week. I have a desk job, I just had to remember to get up every so often and walk , also had to remember to keep drinking Water. I think going back after a week was too soon, it wasn't till the second week that I started feeling like myself and could remember to walk and sip

I'm a Physical Therapist, and my job requires a lot of bending and I returned to work after 10 days after my sleeve.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
