I have morphed into a food monster...what is up?

What I am about to tell you guys is the absolute truth...

Once upon a time before I was approved for a lapband I was a fairly conservative consumer of food. I usually ate until I was full; the problem was I was hungry often. (The hungry part is how I gained the weight.) Since getting the news that I am getting the lapband I am over eating. I can`t get enough food. Even when I am full I can`t stop eating; my tummy is yelling at me to stop, but I keep shoveling it in. Last night I wasn`t even hungry and I got out a super-sized bag of peanut M&M`s and Cookies and proceeded to binge on them, and I NEVER would have done that in the past. I think I am going insane....Can anyone help me....Before it is too late.........:hungry:

Amy

You have last meal syndrome....:hungry: Welcome to the club :clap2:

I had my 1st visted the surgeon on 5/31 - my pre-op on 7/6 and I had gained 6 lbs.

You are eating all the foods you want cuz you know you are going on a diet and won't be able to eat these things again. So you will but some you won't depending on how band freindly the food is.

You will be ok.. I didn't beat myself up about it - I ate what i wanted to up to pre-op diet.

I was banded 7/17 and am on liquids (including soups) for 2 weeks... I want food that has to be chewn, (is that a word ;)..

Hi Cookielover. I went crazy with food once I got a surgery date also. Part of it was nerves, and part of it was a feeling of panic: oh no - I'm never going to be able to eat this stuff again! But you will be able to - just in very small amounts. I tried not to beat myself up about the binges, and I soon got tired of doing it. Try to keep busy other ways - reading, or do you have any hobbies?

Does your surgeon require a pre-op diet?

Jodie

Oh Cookie! I hear you! and I don't even have a date yet... This insanity has to stop!!! : )

Try FitDay - Free Weight Loss and Diet Journal --- it's FREE and you can secure your food diary (journal, weights/dates, etc) where no one but you can read it... be brutally honest as you enter your foods. I think of it as a way of becoming accountable to yourself... we all know we can't trust ourselves very far where food's involved... When I grab for something to GNOSH on, I think... nah, I don't want to have to enter it in my food list for today and it makes me STOP! Might work for you too... and if I end up GNOSHING anyway... at least it made me stop to think about it first!

The band is a tool... and I think this will be for me as well... (Lord knows I need as much help as I can get)

Boy oh boy, did I do that too!!!! I am scheduled for surgery tomorrow (yikes!) but the minute I got a surgery date, I ate everything in sight, even when I felt sick to my stomach from eating (a rare feeling for me!). So then, two weeks out, I started my pre-op diet. Well, I did really well for about a week, and then I started cheating a little here and there. At my pre-op appt. today, the nurse told me to have a "last meal." I was really surprised that she suggested that and now I'm thinking...."what can I have that I really really love that I may never be able to eat again?" There is too much to choose from!!!! HELP!

And here I thought it was just me! I too have last meal syndrome. Originally when I first scheduled my date, I thought to myself "OK, let's pig out and make sure to get in all the favorites before the surgery!" Then the better part of me told myself that this was a life changing procedure and should be started right then, not just after the surgery. So I completely cut soda out of my diet (had been my drink of choice for 17 years!) but I've adapted to being satisfied with Water. I ate smaller portions and watched my calories ... did really good and lost 7 lbs! But this past weekend it hit me (literally slapped me on the head!) This was to be my last week of food freedom! I must EAT! So I treated myself to a 6" sub from Subway, and a bag of their jalapeno chips (gained back 2 lbs) then last night hubby said, "Hey let's have Taco Bell for dinner!" I could have turned him down ... but I didn't. Now I have 3 days to go until my surgery and I am craving all kinds of things, I want them and I want them NOW but trying to maintain some self-control :paranoid :biggrin1:

You will be able to eat after the surgery - just smaller - I would suggest your most favorite meal that might not be band friendly once your band in on. - but again everyone here seems to be diff - some can eat bread some cant' etc. - I had my fav meal for about 6 weeks:rolleyes:...

I got banded 4/30 - self pay Dr. McKeen in Provo - he didn't have me do a pre-op diet so the week before I didn't gorge, but I didn't diet either, just had some of my favorites, saturday before had my last 64oz mtn dew - didn't have any real "pain" just muscle soreness in my abs - felt like I'd done a million sit-ups - I've been back 3 times for a fill and so far I don't need one - still losing slow and steady - riding my bike and swimming - excercise is the key - when I don't do it I plateau - I still eat pretty much whatever just much much smaller portions - I do try and avoid the carb-y stuff (pasta, bread, rice, potatoes) and still no sodapop or coffee - its a good thing to do - I would do it again in a second - good luck to you

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
