Am I done?!

Recommended Posts

I don't understand what's going on? I have been stuck in the 240s for about a month now. For the past few days I've been sick so all I've been doing is fluids like chicken broth tea and Water. Yeah I've snacked here and there but not much because I've been sick. I'm 8 mos post op and I'm afraid that I've stopped losing weight. Just a minute ago I got on the scale and it said 250?

How can I be gaining? Now I will say that I know that around this time I can expect my weight to fluctuate but I thought I'd never see 250 again. Trying to think positive due to the fact that it is that time of the month for me, but I've been stalling for a whole month anyway. What can I do to break the stall? Should I reset? I really feel like crying right now you just don't know. Please help!!!! I really need your support!!!

Disordered eating is just as bad as over eating. Snacking "here and there" always has more calories than we ever want to admit. You don't need to reset, you need to follow the basic tenets of Protein then veg with a minimum of 60 grms of protein & 64 ounces of fluids. Get back to that, add in some regular exercise and you should start losing again.

My weight loss slowed way down about 8 months post op too. I wasn't overeating alot....just letting little bits here and there sneak in. Track so you are really accurate, get Protein and Water in. Consider going lower carb (eliminating Protein Bars, for example). I also introduced high intensity interval training (Google it) and went on to hit goal at 14 months post op I lost over 150#. It takes more effort further down the road.

You may be cheating yourself without knowing it. Since the time of the Romans, phrases such as "here and there" and "but..." have been give-aways. Vagueness = understatement and "but" = excuses. You'd not be alone in this.

If you don't use a food tracker to keep detailed records of what you put in your mouth, start now. You'll be amazed at how much you probably eat with no awareness or recollection.

Eat properly and exercise and the rest will catch up. If you don't start to see the scale moving downward in another, say, three weeks, you can make an appointment with the RD to review your food trackers (take a week's worth) and your overall patterns and choices.

You're far from done.

Some broths are high in sodium, which may exacerbate your premenstrual weight gain. This is temporary, follow the advice of@@BLERDgirl and you will start to lose again.

"Yeah I've snacked here and there."

Well, stop doing that.

Thanks so much for all your words of encouragement. I've stopped with the snacking and this morning when I woke up I lost a pound so now I'm down to 243. It just gets frustrating and scary when the scale goes nowhere and your so close to meeting your goal.

Take it from the stall queen, don't let the scale dictate your loss. Only you do that by ensuring what you put in your mouth is what your body needs to continue to function well.

If I have a stall, which I am having one for the last 10 days, and the scale annoys you just stay off it for a while but do stay on the plan or your weight will jump in the wrong direction.

You are only done if you choose to give up and change back to old habits. I refuse to ever be there again.

Now, do I have that treat I want every once in a while? Of course I do and when I do I can expect the scale to punish me the next day by not moving. If I am ok with that, I have the treat and deal with the stall.

I am the cause of my latest stall. That small piece of chocolate chip cheesecake I had started it, the crackers the next day with all the salt did not help. So, 2 days ago I reset and will hopefully start moving in the right direction soon.

Good luck to you!

And although a few days late on this...STAY away from the scale during your TOM. It is a time of major fluctuation.

Glad you are getting back on track and congrats on your loss thus far.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
