Surgery in one week - nerves have kicked into overdrive!

Recommended Posts

Today is the first day of my pre-op diet and my surgery is one week from today. All of a sudden, I am nervous! I've been looking forward to this for 6 months and yet I can't shake my nerves. I am not questioning my decision. I know that this is the best thing for me and that it's the right thing to do. Did anyone else have this happen to them before their surgery?

Yes, I think most people have those feelings. You'll be okay. It'll be over before you know it. Good luck!

of course! you're having surgery it's normal to be nervous, and you're about to make a major life change. I was nervous too, and a complete wreck, shaking and crying the day before my surgery.

just think about how much weight you're going to loose and how good you'll feel when you've lost

good luck!!

I'm with you. Mine is one week from today, too! It doesn't feel real yet. I know what I've been working toward these last 6 months but I can't believe it's actually going to happen, I keep thinking they're going to call and take back my approval or something. I'm going to be super nervous for the next week!

Mine is December 8th and I am a wreck! I am beyond emotional-crying because I'm happy, crying because I'm scared, etc. Jeez, I wasn't this bad when I was pregnant with my daughter. Its all I think about all day and night. Am I making the right decision? What if something goes wrong? What if I'm the small percent that has serious complications after? Is this really finally happening? Am I really going to be healthy again? I completely understand where you're coming from...good luck with everything!!!!

I'm a week out as well and my emotions are EVERYWHERE. I'm up half the night worrying and during the day I've been obsessively cleaning and organizing my house. @@tera1982 my thought process has been just like yours. A few minutes ago I looked at my husband out of nowhere and said, "WHAT IF I DIE!?" and he was just like.. "Uh....? What?"

But since we're all here, at least we can support each other throughout!

@@tera1982 and @@Half of Bri - I am so glad to hear I'm not the only one to think like that. I keep thinking that the risks are low, but SOMEONE has to be in that percentage! How do I know it won't be me? I am doing this so that my kids have me around for a long time. It would really stink if this surgery was the thing to take me from them. But then I remind myself that I am fully trusting God to see me through and He is in control. I'm doing what I'm supposed to do. Thanks for sharing everyone! I feel much better now.

You have to go in to surgery with positive thoughts. That way your mind and body will work together.

I'm set for Dec 9th. I'm trying to practice what I preach!!!

Thank you ladies for letting me know I'm not the only one whose thoughts are running rampant. I have been so excited about getting this surgery the closer to my date the more scared and nervous I become. I try to think positive but it's hard.

OMG!!!! This is the exact same for me! I can't stop cleaning and preparing for the surgery. I tell my hubby the same thing! I'm terrified!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
