Recommended Posts

Every time I feel like eating unhealthy I always go and watch videos in YouTube of people with bariatric surgery, it gives me motivation and tools. Also obesityhelp Facebook page for motivational stories.

I watch YouTube videos too!

I think the internet can be your source of great information for your food plan. Google the different phases 1,2,3,4 and you will probably find all sorts of menus that you can follow. A few things you should follow:

Protein at each meal/snack

minimum 60 grams protein(.36 grams per pound of body weight is a true requirement)

drink, drink and drink Water all day long!

watch liquid calories(cream in coffee, high calorie protein shakes)

I am trying to have 3 meals and only one snack a day. I am 10.5 weeks out from GB. I consume between 60-90 grams of protein a day.

Dears. Thank you so much. It's actually much better this week. I am getting lots of Protein and Water. And making a point of not consuming carbs or sweets and I already see results. The Internet is actually a great source of information. And you lovely ladies are a great source of mental support.

My dearest Shellbell 79. Woman you should really consider a career in motivational speeches. Hahahahahaha. You would rock that. But thanks for your lovely kind words. I don't really need therapy. I was just having a rough patch or a glitch. But the kind supportive ladies here actually did pull me through and I did loose 8 pounds since Friday. Thank god you responded so late to my post. Only God knows where I would have been had I seen your comment before theirs. U know. Where I come from. Encouragement goes a long way.

While I agree it wasn't the most "kid gloves" approach post, it did work on some level! Lol. Perhaps just enough to make you stop and get angry and find an approach that works for you.

Encouragement, tough love, support, anger.. All great motivators. And look at you go now woman!! 8 lbs down and totally motivated. I'm sorry if it offended you, I can totally understand how it could come across as cold and unsupportive but it was meant to be just the opposite! It isn't the sweetest post I've ever written (by faaaar) but in fact a harsh reminder of the seriousness of the procedure we underwent. I'm so glad you're doing great! That's the important thing and that you know I was trying to come from a good place! Cheers and good luck on your journey!

@@shellbell79 - I am not sure you read all the information. This person is from Egypt and received no real instruction and has been trying to find everything from the internet. Your reaction is a bit too strong for this person who truly was seeking help when she hadn't been given the same instruction we receive here in the states. I know some people on this board are moaning about following rules and perhaps then your response would have been appropriate but in this individual's case, your response appears to be too aggressive.

agreed. i think tough love most certainly has its place, but it almost seemed like op's drs didn't even recommend a Vitamin regimen since the blood work levels were so low.

good luck to you op! i love your proactive nature...you're going to succeed!

Thank you for your 2 cents Daisee.. Very helpful for sure. I did read the entire thread, hence the reaction.

I'm not entirely sure I understand your "moaning about following the rules" bit but either way she seems like a very smart and very capable woman who will disseminate the suggestions and pick healthy choices to get on track. It's just a rule of thumb to not really listen to everyone on the internet because typically, the suggestions are false and could cause more harm. She has already stated that she is back on track and very motivated. I doubt it was my comment and I doubt it was this comment to me that got her going in the right direction.

It was scary to me how blindly some people go into this. I know now that the Egyptian health care system does not fully prepare people at all for this type of surgery.

Aggressive or not, it was my opinion and that's all really. Just as you have a strong opinion about my opinion, everyone's entitled to one. Cheers for now and Merry Christmas!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
