Insurance approved and scared to death

I just got my insurance approval for WLS today. It is something that I have been thinking about for 2 years. I tried the HMR diet and actually lost 35 pounds but as soon as I quit it all came back (plus another 15). I am now at my heaviest I have ever been (5'6 and 255). I have a hard time tying my shoes in the morning because I can't bend down to do it. I can't go out and play with my kids. I can't hit a golf ball as far as I used to. In general life sucks right now.

My problem is like so many others...I am wondering what I am getting myself into. I know it is the fear of the unknown. I faced that before Basic Training for the Air Force and now I am facing it again. The only thing I know is that if something doesn't change I won't be around to see my kids get married.

Please tell me I am going to be ok with this new lifestyle. Right now I can't ever seem to be full so I eat and eat and eat. Will the band help with that aspect or will I eat through it?

Thanks,

Brad

I now have my surgery date. December 9 will be the first day of my new life.

Hey BG!

I wanted to say first and foremost congratulations for venturing this far in your journey. Overall - if you tried all other avenues and it constantly rendered inadequate results then I feel you're making the best decision for you to get back on track.

But I will caution you this surgery is just an assistive tool. In the beginning due to swelling and being scared to push the bank limits you will be cautious but the band will stretch and you may notice more food will probably be needed to keep you fuller longer. So just ensure that as of today you're changing your eating habits for your new lifestyle. Eating right and making the best nutritious choices will be key for your success and an active lifestyle.

So hang in there and just know you will be just fine! Keep us posted on your success!
