I'm choosing to be "supportive" and tell the OP what he/she wants to hear.

Sorry to one up you, there.

That rumbly grumbly thing... I had it too. I was outraged as I'd been led to believe on these posts that I wouldn't be hungry. It diminishes over the next couple of weeks. I think your tummy is outraged and is trying to win. The bread and Pasta thing is because in order to loose fat and not muscle you need to lay off the carbs and eat Protein and veggies.

Stop being mad. You're on the path to being super happy. :)

@@forgetit -- As a band owner, I'm unable to speak of the instructions for the other procedures. What I can say instead is that following instructions is basis, but it doesn't preclude questioning your surgeon, RD, NP, whomever. Since not all practices prescribe identical protocol for any one surgical procedure, yours may amend for you. I'm not saying this as gospel, but you may get some wiggle room so that you're not so miserable.

I get that you're angry, crazed, frustrated, cranky and a tad homicidal. Calm yourself by the time you walk through the practice's door so that you can communicate effectively and intelligently. Get your murdering done tonight so that you can accomplish something tomorrow. By all means make it known how you're faring, but leave out things like "this diet isn't fair." That's the tantrum speaking. If, however, you're determined to conduct the appointment as a variation on "The Ransom of Red Chief," you'll have to go at it full throttle.

Let's hear from you when you get back home.

Your body should eat itself, you've got enough fat to feed it.

What does your plan say? Are you Clear liquids or all liquids. How long? How long for purees & soft foods. The liquid phase is challenging for us all. Hang in there. Make sure you aren't experiencing head hunger or acid which can often mask as hunger pains? Do not compare programs. You signed up for this one. If you have questions or concerns talk it over with your nutritionist and try to come up with reasonable workarounds or compromises.

Thanks for actually trying to acknowledge what I was asking. I am on the all liquids diet now until next Thursday when I go to purees. The liquids are driving me absolutely crazy. I don't believe I'm experience acidity because I'm on a regular antacid already. It is almost definitely partially head hunger, but my abdomen is rumbling and grumbling and my stomach is doing that squeezing thing it does when you're super hungry, which then also makes me feel nauseous. I just don't feel like I'm getting enough in and all I'm eating is Protein. I figure if I have to eat something, it may as well be Protein. If I'm going to drink Water, it may as well be Isopure, for example. I AM following the program, and I want to kill everyone. I just want to know when the real light at the end of the tunnel is, because I do not believe this piece of paper I have is it. I believe that when I talk to my doctor and dietician I will get confirmation of that based on everything I've read and the other patient I talked to, but I was wondering what the forum thought and I'm mostly just getting "shut up and listen to your doctor"...

I am also on a medicine for stomach spasms. That's what it sounds like you're describing here. I can relate to wanting other things. Seriously, I just want to chew beef sticks. Is that good, probably not. But I am only allowed to have cream Soups til next Monday. Then to purees. The liquid was hard. But I mixed things up to make it easier on me. Just figured out if I warm the soy milk a little then I can get my protein in better. I'm still working toward that 64 ozs. Def the hardest few weeks.

Boy, you are feeling pissy!

;)

I do understand what you're saying. So cross-examine the surgeon tomorrow. Get the answers you need.

BTW, pre-op I took Ranitidine 150 mg. twice a day for GERD. But after surgery, my surgeon prescribed a much stronger antacid -- a PPI (proton pump inhibitor) called Protonix, which I took for about 4 months. It made a LOT of difference in terms of how much hunger I felt during those early months. So also ask the surgeon about giving you a PPI Rx.

Now, go out there try not to hurt anyone before you see the doctor.

That was AWESOME hahahahaha

I know what I've gotten in to here. I did plenty of research before and my own husband has had bypass.

I find it very hard to believe that you did "plenty of research," when in your OP you were shocked at not being allowed bread or Pasta for 6 months, because you "haven't seen that anywhere!" Every plan I've seen includes restrictions on these types of carbs for 6 months or longer. Every book I've read stresses that this type of food is off limits for a very long time if you want to be successful in the long term. This information is EVERYWHERE.

Maybe you only absorbed what you wanted to hear (similar to how you are taking the responses to your post, which were actually been pretty nice, honest and helpful until you got your panties in a wad). If you expect to be able to eat whatever you want post-op, then you can expect to have similar results to what you had pre-op after the honeymoon phase is over.

I'm 5 days post op too and can barely drink a half can of broths day half a yogurt and only one bottle of Water. Have added unflavored Protein to all. Until today felt like razor blades when hitting my stomach. So myself I would be afraid to stray from the diet

In my program the sleeve actual has more restrictions for a longer time than bypass. You have a huge staple line that has a higher chance of leaks.

In my program your on liquids for an extra week longer and on puréed food for an additional 2 weeks longer than the bypass patients.

It really just depends on the program and the doctors opinion on how they feel about the surgery.

But like others have said. This isn't a diet. It's a lifestyle change. And "if you do what you've always done, you will get what you've always gotten"

From personal experience. Carbs got me here to begin with. I don't want to ruin this amazing opportunity I have. No matter how bad it sucks.

I just sat at Applebee's and watched everyone eat. I went home and cried. I'm a month out. I miss food. I miss meals. But at the end of the day. My life and well being is way more important to me than Pasta and carbs. This is the last resort that can change my life for the better. There is no other option after this. I can't afford to mess this up.

I can't tell u how many times I have felt like this is unfair. But what's also unfair is not fitting comfortably on a plane, wearing cute clothes that don't cost a fortune cuz they are not plus size, feeling like I have no sense of self worth, being treated differently by others because of my size, no being able to go hiking with my friends, feeling like I have to miss out on so much because my body stops me.

There's a lot of things that aren't fair but I'm slowly learning that food shouldn't be something that is "unfair" to me. I have to learn to eat to live and not live to eat.

I completely understand where you are coming from but you have to look past the "now" feelings and think of where you will be years from now living a happier healthier life.

Damnit. Now I want to know if he went and told that doctor off.

I can only imagine how that went down........two Iron wills colliding.......forgedtits and the doctor (I'm seeing Arnold Swartzenaeger in this role for some reason....)

"I want a sammich dambit !!!"

"NO...just Soup for you".

"It's not fair......I should have cupcakes".

"No......Protein Powda only......now, get to the choppa".

"I want oodles of noodles and bread bowls"

"STOP with your whining"

I almost feel sorry for the surgeons.......I mean, they have the ability to change lives in a way that patients can only dream of......yet their results are held hostage by those that want to fight them every step of the way.

I simply don't understand how people make it to the surgery and have so damn little understanding of basic calories and nutrition. This stuff is taught in elementary schools. Hell, I grew up in the boonies.....where the teachers main challenge was keeping us from breeding our cousins.....yet somehow.....someway....they taught us the basic concepts of how to eat.

Sure....many, like me, turn their back on that knowledge and develop weight problems as adults. Thankfully I stayed off my cousin, though.

There is normally so much education that goes into a bariatric program that you'd expect good comprehension of the surgery and the demands that follow.

Add to the fact that she's lived through this with her husbands wls.....although a different procedure.

OP is right. It's not fair. It's not fair to the surgeon. That poor surgeon will never get the time back that she's going to spend arguing with the OP in this visit. OP already knows everything and won't be satisfied until the surgeon yields and admits that cupcakes, Cookies and pizza are in fact, great foods that will yield to a slim, trim and sexy new you.

Poor surgeon. She could be spending that time with patients that actually are receptive and willing to listen and follow.

I need to get in on this somehow or I risk losing my membership in the meanies clique...

You... you...

hmmm...

wait! I got it!

You should demand a full refund immediately and tell your surgeon to put you back the way you were! That will show them!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
