ADULTS SAY THE MOST STUPIDEST THINGS!

Recommended Posts

Only list here comments you have heard others say if you have chose to tell them about your surgery.

1.) Why would you want to do that?

2.) Are you sure this is what you want to do?

I told my my husband, my kids and made the mistake of telling my MIL!

Why can't you just go on a diet and work out with me?

"You don't need the surgery, you aren't that heavy."

(I was weighing in between 350-375 lbs the few years prior to surgery)

"Isn't that a little drastic?"

"There is a diet I did that worked and I lost a lot of weight! That is all you have to do!"

---They gained back all the weight the "lost" on that diet after they stopped.

All of you are just making me happy that I chose not tell anyone.

Hi guys! I am meeting with the surgery team next week for a gastric sleeve. Going into this decision to have surgery I definitely have concerns about the response I will get from others when I begin to lose the weight. I am also curious how I should respond to everyone's questions. I was thinking of joking about swallowing a tape worm. haha! just kidding but to be honest I don't know how I want to respond. I am naturally a more private person and don't feel as though it's just anyone's business. Any advice would be so welcome.

It really depends on the person and my relationship with that person. To the causal acquaintance I don't say more than "it's been a lot of hard work." Close friends and families get details.

Thanks that's helpful!

"I would rather lose the weight than to have someone cut on my body"

"All you have to do is eat vegetables and fruit"

"What kind of surgery is that and what are the side effects?" (Instead of asking me positive questions)

Even though I have been asked/told these things I still decided to tell my husband, daughter, immediate family and friends. At this point in my life I do not care what someone thinks I should or should not do. I have struggled too long with obesity and I'm ready to be healthy and fit. I have a supportive husband and daughter, that's all that matters. One minute people will tell you not to do it and the next minute they're going to ask how you did it. Remember that... ;)

You aren't heavy enough

You should just take X pill.

X diet works do that instead

Do you realize the changes you'll have to make?

If you'd eat less and exercise more...

Thats the easy way out

(On here) You don't have any comorbidites, you shouldn't do it....

(My personal favorite) the only reason why you can't lose the weight this time is because your gut is imbalanced, take these supplements (which adds up to hundreds of dollars, and they just so happen to be a rep for X product) and then do it the old fashioned way

I've heard all of these before, but the newest one was someone asking me, "Are you single now?"

lol, everyone knows the wife fattened me up.

"Just eat smaller portions and exercise, that's what I do when I want to lose a couple of pounds"

(Said by my friend that is super athletic & fit and has never dealt with weight issues in her life)

"Just take appetite suppressants or diet pills"

(Said by my BFF that knows I have a rare disorder that makes me allergic to pretty much any medication)

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
