Funny story about Aetna & Hospital Bill

Recommended Posts

So I had my RNY done in 8/10/15 and due to a couple of complications I was in ICU longer and my hospital bill came in at $176,870.00. So now Aetna contacts me and asked if I had any other insurances they might be able to share the cost with? I said NOPE just you sweet people at Aetna LOL.

I had 2K out of pocket but that's it! Aetna gets to pay the rest! Lucky little Ins. Co.

Aetna does that all the time! When my son got a scald burn on his leg from our kitchen sink faucet they wanted to know if there was any chance we planned to pursue legal action against the person who was in charge at the time it happened-which was husband, me, and my poor teenager daughter who was washing him up after dinner at the time. They must have called and sent papers to the house a dozen times before they got it through their heads they were the ones paying the bills for his burn treatments! They'll look for anyone else to stick the bills to!

I went to a Kaiser ER for a bug bite that had turned into an abscess that had to be drained. I got a letter awhile later asking if I was planning to seek legal action. Against who? The bug?

It was from a third party company and at first I thought it was a scam and was going to ignore it. But in doing research I discovered that it's something many insurance companies are pursuing these days. It's called health care subrogation. They're looking to take a portion of any proceeds you might receive from an accident when you later sue someone else for liability related to the injury you had treated.

Yup, I got a similar letter after my son was treated in the ER after a wave wiped him out at the beach. No one to blame but mother nature!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
