Judged at the hospital

Recommended Posts

The hospital I had my procedure at called me after once I was home a few days if this had happened I would have definitely mentioned it the nurse were nothing but nice where I was if you get a call or a letter by all means sing like a bird they are not there to comment on or judge your medical decisions that's unprofessional and unacceptable would they ask a patient who had a blockage why they didn't just do something else? That's just stupid if they don't agree with it tough shit they should keep their big mouths closed and do their damn jobs surgical patients regardless of type of procedure certainly don't need the added stress of judgements and gossip of people who don't even know them making assclown comments

I am so sorry this happened to you. I am a nurse and I am just really disheartened by the unprofessional and rude behavior of these nurses. Please report them. This is unacceptable. I would request that these nurses get sensitivity training and an official write up. Speak to the DON (director of nursing) write a letter, get names date and time you were there and like another poster said it wouldn't be difficult from getting if they use an EMR (electronic medical record) . Also speak to the floor team leader as well, or department nursing manager. There are wonderful nurses out there that are compassionate and that truly love what they do and provide above and beyond care. I hope this experience doesn't ruin your opinion of nurses in general. I can assure you we are not all like that. I had my surgeries at a Center of Excellence and the bariatric program was the best. My care was so wonderful. I hope I have the same care when I go in for my revision next month. Congratulations on your recent surgery. I truly wish you the best :) (hugs)

My neurologist said something to me that really struck a nerve. I was diagnosed with pseudotumor cerebri. He told me I needed to lose weight quickly or i would go blind. I told him I'm in the bariatric program and I would be having surgery soon. He said "well that's nice but that surgery only works for awhile! You will gain the weight back!" I was so in shock!

The hospital staff was amazing! It was just the one dr who really needs to learn some bedside manner.

Sorry you had to go thru that, I would definitely report that mess tho!

Shaking my head at some of the ignorance by doctors and nurses described above.

It's particularly awful to experience something like this -- because the comments are usually made in situations where patients have ZERO power, compared to the assholes who are making these comments. You're either already in a hospital bed being cared for by them or you're in a relationship where the doctor has a ridiculous amount of power to decide if they will treat you and how well they will treat you.

And thanks to all the wonderful, wonderful doctors, nurses and other medical personnel out there. You guys are angels on earth. :)

Those nurses need to be reminded by the hospital staff that comments like those should not be made to the patients.

I for one would like to see all hospital staff (doctors too; advance degrees do not make you exempt from bacteria) be reminded of standard protocol to wash their hands before and after touching a patient to minimize the contamination of hospital surfaces and spreading diseases.

It also is a good practice too for people visiting patients.

Totally disgusting. Feedback to the team you went with. Unless people report it, it will go unchecked.

Congrats on the surgery btw :)

When I went for the barium test the next day after my surgery, the young lady assisting, I don't know her title, asked " why did you have the sleeve surgery? " i pretended to not hear her. Of course she repeated the question. My response. ..because I wanted to. No more questions from her. On another note. ..the nurse in the holding room told me she planned on allowing God to help her lose her weight. Really???? Yes, both of these people were very over weight.

That's nasty, and besides unprofessional -- very rude! I'm sorry to hear.

As someone who works in a hospital, I hate to hear all these negative experiences. We aren't all callous and bad! On a positive note, I had my annual with my gynecologist and he told me how proud he was of me! He had suggested it in the first places and I hadn't seen him since!

I don't understand why the first comment was unprofessional. It didn't sound judgemental, but rather a warning. Practically every class, support group or appointment I've been to, there's been a warning of some sort. I think it's good to remember that the surgery isn't a cure, it's a tool.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
