To the OP -- they're not picking on you because you're obese. They're picking on you because you've lost their medical practice income by missing two appointments.

They don't want you to miss any more appointments.

That is all.

I don't understand why you are being so hard on me.

Is it ok to count rescheduling an appointment as a strike? I gave them a week and a half notice that I had to reschedule. It's hard to believe that reasonable people like you think that's fair.

My mistake was to put November instead of October as my appointment date when I put it into my phone 4 months ago. And again, you believe that it's fair to drop me for an innocent mistake?

I simply can not get my head around it. It just does not seem reasonable

Life isn't fair. Those responding aren't being "hard" on YOU, just as the receptionist isn't being "hard" on YOU.

Policy is policy. The doctor has a right to make his/her policy and it's your job to follow it. I KNOW it's frustrating, just as it's frustrating for those who had to take time off work to schedule appointments because the more convenient times were taken, those who had to get a babysitter, because they couldn't get an appointment slot when the kids were in school.

Nope. It's NOT "fair". It's business.

They aren't picking on you, they have a business they are trying to run. Don't sweat the small stuff.

Luckily they don't impose fees for canceled appointments.

Let's flip the tables, operating table that is, imagine if you were prepped for surgery are under anesthesia and your surgeon "forgot" to show up to perform the surgery. :)

If you gave ample notice for the first rescheduling I don't think that should count as a strike. My surgeon's office make reminder calls the day before your appointment. Does your doctor offer this?

Mistakes happen. Now is the time to brush it off and continue onward and upward. Good luck!

Good Morning

I love it when people post their issues, other people don't give them the validation then want and they erase it. JEEEZUS.

As I just stated in the "Giving Up" thread.

Some people just LOVE playing the consummate victim.....

Well, at least she wrote "Good Morning".

That's better when people erase everything except for a period (.).

(We all know how a period ruins a good time. ;))

Honestly, I am not at all sure what she was expecting from us.

I know this much, when I went to schedule my very last appointment with the team psychologist, he did not have a single appointment available for over 2 months. I was completely peeved that here I was at the end of my 6 month supervised diet and this guy decided he wanted 1 more follow up before he would sign off.

I had never changed or missed or was late to a single appoinment in that 6 months because I was so ready to go and bummed that I had to wait so long. Given my commitment to moving forward, My surgeon, nut and bariatric nurse team tried to get him to do a last phone interview instead and suddenly his schedule opened and he found 15 minutes for me.

I still had to wait 3 weeks but it was better than 2 months. I cried for a whole day because I was so sick and so ready to move forward. I just wonder how many of his patients did not bother to show up during that period of time. My appointment lasted 15 minutes and in my opinion was a complete waste of time. He just needed to feel important, I think.

I ended up getting a different psychologist post surgery.

Anyway, I have a very hard time feeling sympathy for people that don't follow the program. If you want a life altering change, you have to be willing to change. Or wait until you are so others that are ready can move forward.

By the way, my six months actually was 9 because of their jammed schedules.

Times like this are when I think people should include their age when posting on the Internet.

Millennials. I vote they are millennials.

And before everyone jumps on me about that comment, I have 2. I know the attitudes well.

Just sayin'.

I don't think it's age, I think it's entitlement. And emotional intelligence.

Venting is fine, whining is OK. But at the end of it all, one must take accountability and OWNERSHIP for the part they play in their own destiny. Not happy with how thing are going? Cry, moan and fix. Period.

Well, I've been yelled at today.

man oh man

all the responses from the initial writer have been deleted from my boad

monitor says " deleted by "Snowbutterfly"

hmmmm, is that because she wrote was so infammatory ???

probably

the comments from everyone point to that she was late for doc appt and was upset, got charged? maybe was "asked"/told not to come back????

i agree with allll the comments written

you are ALL terrific except..... ;)

@@Babbs, and @@Elode

don't look at me!!

i didn't mention your names did i??

but if the shoe fits  :D

i agree, docs office SHOULD text or leave appt reminder message one day before appt

this will help "no shows" at the office

benefiting both doc and patient

(different pt could take their time slot)

shouldn't we be responsible for remembering our own important appts???

sure we should - but, it's nice/helpful to be reminded

we're not all perfect!!! (then again ;) )

hmmmm- anyone wish to send me a copy of initial post??

i will forever be in your debt!!!

@@Snowbutterfly - good afternoon - have a nice day

So for those late to the party;

OP posted that they woke up at 8:50 for an 8:30 appointment and then was informed they would have to reschedule. This was the 2nd cancellation/reschedule because the previous appoint was canceled by OP due to mixing up dates in her calendar. Since this was the 2nd occurrence and even though OP gave a week's notice for the previous reschedule she was informed by staff that 1 more missed appointment would result in being dropped from th program. OP seem to feel this was mistreatment due to her weight. Responses have attempted to explain that this is how a medical practice is run and weight has nothing to do with it.

ETA: I have been corrected via PM the following:

Please correct your post.

The initial post stated that the phone call from the clinic was at 8:50am. I had been at work since 7am and offered to jump in a cab to get there by 9am, missing 1/2 an hour of a 2 hour appointment.

The clinic refused my offer.

It looks like you are changing the situation to support your position.

Yes. That was the part that tickled me. She was shown bias against due to her obesity by her bariatric surgeon.

Uhm....

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
