The Journey has been slow, and I couldn't be happier!

Recommended Posts

Greetings, bandsters! I have lost 43 pounds and four inches off my waist and hips. I had my band over a year ago. Before Band (BB), I had been diagnosed with being "resistant to weight loss" . Is that even a thing? Well, I worked really hard, but it wasn't enough. All the doctors I went to said some people are just like that.

So when I took matters into my own hands and saw Dr. Ren, she said that it would be slow and that a reasonable goal would be 165 (down from the 209 I was!). Well, here I am, 166 and thrilled every day! I will keep at it because, well, who knows? I am just so pleased with the whole experience, except maybe the barfing. And then the post barf belly irritation. Ah, band life.

I'm going to keep going since my knees are being totally replaced this year, and I can't wait! Soon I will be able to return to my Kung Fu (hence my name), my Lion Dancing (hence my photo), and really kill it in my oriental Middle Eastern Dance (hence the "after" photo). I regret nothing about this journey, and would encourage all others to do the same. After my knees become bionic, and my weight loss I will be unstoppable! I'm going to try to lose extra before the surgery so I don't freak over the inevitable gain from bing immobile.

CANT WAIT!

Dr. Ren is my surgeon as well. Sounds like you have everything well in hand. If you're interested, we're holding a face to face support group on Saturday in Midtown for NYC and surrounding area WLS and pre-WLS folk. If you want details, just PM me.

PS: love your pictures!

What fun pictures! You are doing beautifully and clearly having a lot of fun. Best wishes for a speedy recovery. You'll be able to do all the dancing and Kung Fu without pain, yippee!

@@dragon Lady Looking great!!!

Trust me it's a "thing" I have that as well...sometimes we hear it as metabolic syndrome if there are other factors along with it like heart condition or diabetes, or some kind of endocrine thing.

If we work it we win it....but your right it's darn hard work but worth it I agree!!

Congratulation on your weight loss and your pictures, I have a turtle so I know what slow weight loss is and am very happy with my weight loss.

I have been able to keep off a significant amount of weight over the past 8 years I have no doubt the way I was heading I would of been over 400lbs by now.

Looking forward to one day reaching my goal but if I never do my life is certainly better then it has been in quite awhile

Good luck on your upcoming surgery

Congratulations on your weight loss. i also want to share my success story.

I immediately noticed a huge difference in my life. My social life is now so much better than it was before. I feel great and can't believe why I waited so long to make this change. I have lost 87 lbs weight and i couldn't be happier. The doctors made me feel so comfortable and the procedure wasn't painful at all. As it is an invasive technique, you don't need to worry about the big cuts on your stomach because they will only cut small portions to insert the band on the upper portion of your stomach. :)

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
