@@Babbs I had no idea that high Protein foods would keep you fuller longer. What about the black bean Pasta? Had you heard of that? I looked it up. Its expensive. You mentioned Beans but the are full of carbs too.

@@Whitney, have you ever thought about trying to substitute Pasta with zucchini or spaghetti squash?? They've worked for me...I'm still pre op, but I've used that in my previous diets and did well when I really wanted some spaghetti or lasagna or even chicken alfredo...

Dub - Why are posting pictures of food from the internet? If I wanted to make myself hunrgy, I could google them myself.

At 6 weeks out my doc gave me the go ahead to eat what I wanted with the understanding that Steak, chicken and bread might be an issue. (Hard to digest, etc...) I took things very carefully but found out I can eat whatever I want. I have had pork chops, shrimp, steak, chicken, rice, roast beef, turkey, eggs, cheese, really almost anything with no issue/complications.

Obviously when he said eat what I wanted he meant "healthy" - just to clairify. I did have a french fry the other day because it looked so good. It didn't taste good at all. I mainly stick to the Protein because that is what I crave and it fills me up. pizza was good except I ate one tiny slice and only a tiny bit of crust. I scraped off the toppings.

It's all trial an error for people. Just make sure to take it slow, measure EVERYTHING, and chew chew chew. You will find out what works and what doesn't.

The internet ?

I assure you that those pics came from my backyard grill or my kitchen. I enjoy grilling, cooking and such. The only problem is that I usually had loud music playing and beer close at hand when doing this. No mysteries where the weight came from on me. I only posted the healthiest stuff I cooked. Typically, I'd do unhealthy stuff....... :P

The key to the artichokes is to boil them a minute or two prior to grilling. Brush on some olive oil and stuff with your favorite cheese.

Big no on the salad. Really, what did I like most? I about lost my crap over happiness for chicken breast. I am also this week all about turkey bacon, cooked until really crisp, so that when I chew it, it becomes a sort of bacony powder in my mouth. Nom nom nom.

The food that Dub was posting looked so effing amazing!!! Wowsers, come to BC Canada and be my chef?

Puhleeeeeeeaaase!

I had my first real solid food yesterday actually.... TURKEY!!! It was our Thanksgiving day yesterday.

(Turkey, sweet potato, cooked carrot, stuffing, dot of gravy, dot of cranberry jelly.)

Everyone was laughing at my teeny tiny mini meal but damn it was good!

It was so awesome!

Before you state something so absolutely immature and false... you should do your own research. Which I did - all of those pictures were uploaded to another site that is an UPLOAD site just like dropbox or photowhatever it was called, and they are able to be googled/used/and abused by anyone - However, Dub, is more than likely the original uploader of the files since he has given no reason to believe otherwise, and has already made a statement saying so. I'm a full believer in believing what people say until proven otherwise, and your trolling tactics don't prove a thing, except to get me riled up because you think your all that just because your on the 'internet'. This is coming from a gamer of 15+ years, and having been on the internet since probably before you were out of diapers.

And yes, I'm done feeding the troll - go back to your cave

Even if he is the one that posted them on other sites before this one, they don't belong in this thread. This thread was very useful before it was derailed. Thanks for everyone that posted good suggestions.

I'm sorry... I've gotta feed into this -

@@PayItForward

Did you become a moderator and we didn't know it? that you have this need to bash someone for sharing their favorite foods, which was what this post was about. Now, I know you're going to want to be technical about it and say it was favorite first solid foods - and it was topic as such - however, if anything the derailment happened when YOU started bashing him for posting those yummy looking pictures. Which gave some of us something to look forward to trying out when we are on the otherside of the bench - even if it is in vastly smaller quantities. At least his pictures were about the food topic, and not someone trying to pick a fight over the internet because they didn't like all the pictures they had to scroll through to get to other posts. Childish and immature - don't like it - scroll past and read something else.

and of course I helped with the derailment by again feeding the troll.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
