I am 16 days pre-op. It's starting to cool down here. Today I decided I would go thru all my clothes and get rid of my summer clothes. By next summer I plan on being in something much smaller. Anyone else throwing out there summer stuff already?

No but that's not a bad idea.

It depends on what you want to do with your clothes. If you're going to pitch them or donate to Goodwill or another charity, you might as well get rid of them now (I might keep a couple of things just so you can see your progress); if you're thinking of selling them in a consignment shop, you might want to wait until next spring when there's more of a market for those types of clothes.

Good luck to you with your journey! You're going to feel so much better by the time next summer rolls around!

I have gone through my closets and drawers and bagged up everything that as of right now is too big.... no matter what season it is for...I'm not going back to that size, so why keep them? As soon as I find out something is too big, out it goes. Not too soon IMHO.

I wore my old clothes as long as possible because I didn't want to spend a fortune on repeatedly buying clothes. So I ended up having to punch new holes in my belt and just keep pulling it tighter and tighter. Eventually my jeans began looking like parachute pants, especially after losing over 100 lbs. The first negative comment from a person about my pants was a sign that it was now time to purchase new clothes.

I'm so new to this! I see my surgeon tomorrow and then my pcp to star the six month diet and exercise "insurance waiting period" program. So I have awhile to wait but I'm so ready to get it done! I'm so sick of myself and this fat!! In your experience is 6 months along time to wait or did it go by fast?

Depending on what you're getting rid of, they have really cute ideas on Pinterest of how to alter shirts to make them smaller. Would make some cute workout clothes while still in the losing phase.

I"m the opposite. I HOP my summer clothes fit me next year lol. I have super cute 1x tops but I'm a 3x now. I keep hearing I'll be even smaller than that next summer if I get my surgery in November as planned. We'll see.

I HOP??? Is that a fruedian slip? I meant I HOPE

I have a couple days off between now and my surgery.

My closet remains an unexplored resource. I need to get in there and organize stuff. After sorting through it, I'll see a number of things that will go to Goodwill and a number of smaller clothes that I hung on to from when I when I'd been really successful a few years ago with an 8 month low-carb & exercise push. I am really, really looking forward to getting back into those clothes.....and going past them to smaller stuff that I"ll have to buy.

I'll be getting on this in the next few days ahead.

I am hoping to be able to alter some things to avoid buying too much while I am morphing to my smaller size.

I have Kaiser. I started this process back in mid-March! My surgery date is October 21st! I had to take weekly classes for 12 weeks, go to one mandatory support group (which I love and continue to attend, I recommend it to everyone), I've had various appts with my bariatric team, had two appts with my surgeon, and a psych evaluation. It has gone very fast! I'm excited and wishing these last 16 days would move a little quicker.

When is your surgery? I also have smaller clothes from years ago when I lost a lot of weight the same way as you. I've hung on to those clothes. I have plenty of transition clothes from sizes 2x all the way down to mediums.

I hung on to somethings I know I can alter as I shrink. There were a few things I kept for before and after pictures as well.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
