Hummus and ?

Recommended Posts

I am a month post-op and am trying to incorporate some new foods into my diet. I see that hummus is on my approved list of foods, but I am struggling to figure out the best way to consume hummus. Pre-op I would eat hummus with pita chips or pita bread. What is the best way post-op to eat hummus? Does it pair well with other food (chicken), or can I use something to replace the pita chips for dipping?

I mixed it with my tuna fish once. It was okay that way.

Not sure if you can have raw veggies yet, but it is great with baby carrots, cauliflower, & broccoli.

I used it in place of mayo to make egg salad or tuna salad. It also does pair well with chicken IMO. And you don't actually need anything to eat it with -- I would just measure out a small portion and eat it with a baby spoon.

Its a bit too early for raw veggies at this point, but that will be a good option down the road.

I am having tuna for lunch today and will use hummus instead of mayo. I've never heard of this before, but I am willing to give it a try. Thanks for the suggestion!

I eat hummus almost daily. My favorite combo is horseradish hummus and roast beef. I love horseradish personally, but don't like the creamy mayo-esque Arby's crap. There is really no nutritional benefit to regular horseradish either. The horseradish hummus gives me a added does of Protein with my roast beef. It may be a little early yet for lunch meat, but it is something to consider.

There are so many flavors of hummus that I use it in place of just about every condiment I used to use. If you really end up using it like I do, learn to make it yourself. You'll save a ton!

Oh, and Pork rinds go well with hummus too. and Protein chips. And veggie straws...

I make it homemade and eat it with carrot chips (not chips, carrots that are cut flat)

If you put hummus on a tree bark I would eat that stuff up.

Hummus is good on anything!!

I like hummus on chicken, in chili, in black Beans, on veggies, on those nutrigrain fake cracker things, on rice cakes, on pita, on anything!!

I just ate it with a spoon until I could eat solid food again. Now I eat it with baby carrots

I bake 1 tsp of shredded cheese on parchment paper at 350 for 10 minutes and let them cool off. Voila! Cheese "chips" to dip in hummus! Just don't go crazy with them because the fat content can be high. I usually eat 4-5 per serving.

Lots of recipes out there for carb free bread sticks made w/ cauliflower etc that you might make into 'chips' or such...

Also Nutrition.com offers many high Protein and low carb 'chip' made from veggies and soy etc that might work too

I tried mixing hummus with tuna fish today. The result tasted pretty good, but it was a bit dry. I need to look into the carb free (cauliflower) bread sticks.

I also ate mine with a spoon early on and then also used it as a dip to keep my meats moist going down. I love hummus. There is a recipe on here somewhere for chicken bake covered in hummus. I gotta find that and try it...

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
