7 Months PO and need snack options

Recommended Posts

So I'm 7 months post op and can eat more than I could months ago. My 3 meals a day are good and Protein based. Up until now my snack has been a handful of peanuts during the afternoon. Over the months, one handful has turned into two, which turned into three, and then it became grazing on the whole bag. So I'm done with peanuts. Can someone please offer up snack ideas that I can purchase and snack on at work that will keep me full? I rather ideas that I can purchase at the supermarket not make in the kitchen. Thanks a lot!

I buy the flavored pre-grilled chicken breast strips from Trader Joe's and will use them as Snacks. I also use packets of tuna. My criteria for snacks are (1) easy to prepare & portable (2) healthy & (usually) high Protein (3) I can't like it too much or I will just keep going and going with them . . . or simply eat out of boredom. I had the same problem you did with nuts. So, now I stick to grilled chicken, tuna, Jerky, and apples. String cheese also works well as do hard boiled eggs - you can buy bags of pre-boiled, peeled eggs, so they are super convenient.

I know this is going to sound crazy, but try Pork rinds. They have a ridiculous amount of Protein for the serving size. An ounce has about 18 grams of protein. Believe it or not, my surgeon recommended them to me because I am having problems with low blood pressure. The higher sodium content and high protein count make it a good snack. I use hummus as a dip. I have even used Peanut Butter. Weird I know, but it goes together pretty well.

Do have to cook the pregrilled chicken strips from Trader Joe's? If not, that would be convenient.

I should get those Pork rinds. I ate them way back when I went on a divorce diet and lost 50 pounds with Atkins.

I love turkey sticks (like beef sticks, much softer than jersey). The brand I like is Old Wisconsin. I'm only 4.5 weeks post, so they are actually a meal m for me with some cheese when I need a quick lunch, but will likely use them as Snacks later on if I need something.

@@Slimsoon1988 preboiled eggs are in the dairy/egg case at some supermarkets, including Trader Joe's. I stay away from Protein Bars (too many carbs for me, plus I find them to be trigger and slider foods) but I know a lot of people like Quest bars.

Thanks I'm going to check out trader joes for those eggs, my local market didn't have them. I agree the bars have too many carbs. I plan to eat them sparingly. Thanks I'll look up Quest Bars.

I haven't tried these yet but my NUT suggested nut butters which are in small individual squeeze packets. I think the brand was Justin's? Also she recommended Krave Jersey which she said is a little more tender than some.

I have never been to Trader Joe's but I know there is one not too far away. The grilled chicken strips sound good. I'm going to have to check that out!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
