I've been monitoring my food on MyFitnessPal. Not sure what the settings should be for calories/protein/carbs/fats...

What are you all doing?????

I am a little over two weeks and was told 800 calories right now and to try to work up to 1000 in a couple of weeks. I am supposed to eat 5 small meals a day. Ha ha. How can we eat anything but small?

That being said, I am lucky to get in three meals and don't think I have been able to get in even 500 calories! I will keep trying. Lol, it must get easier.

Yesterday I had a run in with a food my stomach did not like. I had a sneaking suspicion that I made gut be lactose intolerant because of my trouble drinking Protein Shakes. I was at the hospital all day yesterday (husband having chemo) and went to the cafeteria to find some lunch. Although they had probably 100 different choices, the only thing I thought might work was cottage cheese. Well, two bites in and I was in such pain that I thought I might die. And that lasted for about 20 minutes until I could throw up. Lactose intolerant ....check. Learned my lesson the hard way.

It also messed up the rest of the day because I couldn't bring myself to eat anything and only had some broth before going to bed. Am fine today, but drank 32 ounces of broth early this morning so I don't become dehydrated.

I've had some trouble with this... Wish they had a bariatric setting, lol... I have been ignoring fats because I am just eating the usual safe bariatric foods for my stage, but will pay more attention to that when I branch out more, food-wise. I set my Protein to 68... I was told to get at least 60g of protein a day and I have read between 60-80, so I just randomly picked 68. I set my sugars to 32. I've learned that anything more than 8g of sugar per meal makes me start to "dump" (I hate that word, btw), so i figure no more than 8g x 4 meals, so 32g a day. I just generally watch my carbs because they often fall in line with sugars (but not always!). My doctor kept his advice pretty simple... get in your protein, preferably shakes and plant Proteins (he is a vegetarian, lol), and be careful of your sugars. I have trouble with meats now anyway, can not seem to chew beef and ckn very well, so i have been eating a lot of legumes, seeds, etc... He is big on "legumes"! ;)

Some of my favorite things...

-The Good Bean salted chickpeas

-Salted pumpkin seeds

-Trader Joe's coffee cold concentrate (I mix with Carbmaster Milk (kroger) or fairlife milk over ice and sometimes add Unjury unflavored Protein Powder to it). The concentrate is easy and almost 70% less acidic than regular coffee. I have trouble with reg coffee now :(

-Prosciutto wrapped mozzarella sticks dipped in Rao's or Mario Batali marinara sauce (both of them have low sugars)

-Simple Mills muffin and bread mixes (had to order these online, but they contain all the stuff that I would use if i made mixes at home... almond flour, cauliflower, etc. low sugar/carbs :) Just made the pumpkin muffin and i have one each morning!

-Practically the only thing I am really jonesing for is pizza... i've made the chicken crust pizza and, while it is good, i am not sure that will cut it for me all the time. regular pizza is out, but simple mill's makes a low carb/sugar Pizza Crust that I am going to make this weekend... hopefully is is good!

-trader joe's sugar free choc covered almonds

-diet snapple k-cup lemon iced tea

-i'm sick of Protein Shakes, but i still have Premier Protein vanilla once a day to get in my protein for the day

-I can not get on board with Protein Bars (quest are supposedly the best for us). I have a stockpile of Quest but have only been interested in them when I am out and about and have nothing else.

-oikos triple zero yogurt is AWESOME.. tons of protein and taste good, i am jsut tired of the flavors and wish there was more variety.

-heb carries the Enlightened brand ice cream bar... i LOVE chocolate mint! only 5 sugars and it has 7 grams of protein! low fat and high fiber... awesome!!!

I'll share the most bizarre thing I've done so far. I -really- wanted a taco, or at least something spicy. I put taco seasoning in plain Greek yogurt. A few tablespoons hit the spot, and I bet it would taste awesome on chicken.

Hey folks. I am feeling much better today.

You didn't know I wasn't well? I didn't mention it. When I was discharged from the hospital, they removed my JP drain, despite it continuing to fill up multiple times per day.

I came home, I walked, I did everything I was supposed to, but it hurt. I took my Tylenol. The swelling started going down a little, but I had this knot around my "liver" incision, with increased swelling as my activity increased daily.

By Monday, I called my contact nurse who told me that things sounded normal, especially since I wasn't running a fever. "How could I run a fever on Tylenol?" I wondered. So, I laid off the Tylenol on Tuesday, and up came my fever. I noticed a small soft spot to the side of my now-sealed incision. I sent a picture and texted the nurse my concern that I had an infection.

Yesterday morning, before she could respond, I gently pushed on the area and our of a very tiny hole it drained--in great amounts. This necessitated a trip to the surgeon. He opened it up, packed it with gauze and sent me home with an antibiotic.

I have to re-pack the wound a couple times a day, which hurts surprisingly less than you would think.

I've felt better today than I have since my surgery. :)

Still drinking my meals, but no complaints here!

Wow, sorry you had that complication. Way to keep on top of it when you knew something was not right.

I haven't been able to spend much time on the computer the last couple of days, but was so glad to hear about @@395Ron is home & doing better!!!!!

Glad everyone is doing well! I'm doing well, feel like I never had the surgery, other than eating small amounts & not being hungry. On the pill issue I have always been able to take my meds that weren't chewed whole with a small amount of Water. I don't know why some allow it & other's don't, maybe the hernia op or type of surgery. I get all my liquids in a day 64oz. I drink one 16oz plain water in the morning, 32oz Powerade zero with a scoop of unflavored Protein powder in it after lunch, & the other 16oz of plain water after dinner with if I need it some mirilax to keep things moving. On the protein I drink one premiere Protein Drink a day 30 gr, the 20gr in my powerade zero, & the rest I try to get in with food 2 meals 1/2cup each & a snack of white lowfat string cheese. I don't seem to have any trouble with any foods so far & I no longer take sips of liquids, they are normal amounts. I'm four weeks out. I think I have lost 10 lbs since surgery, but will weigh when I go back to the drs. I weighed last week & decided not to weigh anymore. Not weighing at home so I don't get discouraged.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
