Hi! I have been looking on here for awhile and I am due to have my surgery in November! Excited and nervous!! I was wondering how much weight your doctor is wanting you to lose before surgery? Thanks!!

Congratulations on your upcoming surgery! I had my sleeve done in Mexico so there wasn't a pre-set weight loss requirement I needed to meet. Good luck on your journey!

None, I had no pre-op diet.

True there is no set requirement though i did hear some insurance companies require weightloss how much varies. Im doing it thru medicare since im currently disabled with hopes to reverse it in future

Check with your insurance company, mines didnt require any..in fact i gained..but lost some during the 2 week liquid diet

My program had no loss requirement but I did have a NO GAIN policy. Gaining weight makes it harder on the surgeon and I'm having to do a two week liquid diet before my surgery (in 10 days). My program also encourages pre op weight loss. Any amount you lose before is less you have to lose after was the motto at my hospital. I've lost about 20 pounds. 10 has been from the liquid diet.

Thanks to all of you for your responses. I was just very curious. This site has truly been amazing and so helpful.

I had to lose 24 pounds. But I actually lost more than that.
