I did it for sure ... I made a list of things I wanted to taste / eat before surgery .. and I made it happen ... because I KNEW that once surgery was done ... I was also done eating those things ...

Guess we just have to have one last hurrah!

Why are you done? Really?

This will be the first thanksgiving without grandpa who pretty much raised me. I don't know what I'm going to do this year. My surgery is tentatively scheduled for that week and I wonder what my family will say about it. Knowing he'd say to just screw them all and focus on me.

Your grandfather is right! Focus on you.

I wish I would of had food funerals, it would have made it easier.

WLS gives restriction so we can't consume as much at a meal, not that we can never eat the foods we enjoy ever again (just eat them in moderation and not frequently).

To each their own, but why add more weight to yourself that you will need to lose? Also, it is good to prepare for your post WLS lifestyle change and to stop the bad habits that got us to this point.

Thanksgiving will be difficult since I will be a day shy of 3 weeks post op. I'll still help the family cook, but my meal will be in line with what my post-op plan allows. I can always have turkey some other day.

I didn't have "food funerals" but I did eat things I enjoyed within reason before surgery. After all the pre-op work there was no way in the world that I wanted to gain weight. I remember feeling a real sense of accomplishment that I could eat modest amounts and have my weight stay stable.

I think this is more what I meant; however, it is paired with some mixed emotions about missing food for a time.

My surgery is October 19th also, so I start my liquid diet on October 5th.

One of my coworkers has been very successful with his sleeve. He lost 200 pounds and is maintaining his goal weight. When I asked him about food funerals, he said, "eat your favorite meals, throw a funeral for your old fat self and Celebrate a life well lived! That is the mentality I went in with and it has served me well – no looking back."

I know everyone is different, but I have been having my food funerals - guilt-free. I haven't gained weight, or binged, but if I feel like eating something, I do. Monday I'm going to start weaning myself off my Coke Zeroes and caffeine, and trying out different substitutes.

Other people have different approaches and that's fine. It's nice to read the boards and get advice and encouragement from others, but in the end this is a very personal journey. You should do what you feel is right for you.

Best of luck to everyone!

This weekend is my "time" for food funeral. I start 2 week liquids on 9/29. I had been doing a portion of the liquid diet for about a week. Went out for Italian last night. Ordered Fettuccine Alfredo and couldn't even eat it all. Came home and was in a "carb coma". I realized how much I dislike feeling like that. I discovered I am soooo ready for this change! Good luck to you all!!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
