Protein powder - Smaller scoop?

Recommended Posts

I searched the forum, and despite a ton of posts requesting Protein powder recommendations, I couldn't find this topic.... So, can anyone suggest a Protein Powder (preferably unflavored) that gives a good amount of Protein but doesn't require a big scoop?

I currently have Jarrow, and the scoops size is about 1/4 cup for 18 G protein. That is a lot of bulk to add when my meals are so small (almost two weeks out). I can use half a scoop, but then the amount of protein added seems really small.

So I guess I'm looking for either a powder with a decent amount of protein with a small scoop, or a powder with a much larger amount of protein per scoop, so I can halve the scoop and still get a good protein punch.

Any recommendations? Thanks!

I use a 100% whey Protein Isolate and it's 25g per scoop, I mix it with everything.

Same. I use Isopure unflavored whey it's 26 gms per scoop. You may want to consider switching to a Protein powder that give you more bang for the buck.

Other brands to try are Syntrax nectar, and GENEPRO. Personally I'm not a fan of Genepro's psuedo science method of counting their Protein level, but others on this forum swear by it.

Mine is 100% whey as well... Not sure why it has so much less Protein. What brand do you use?

That's exactly what I'm trying to do :)

I'm using a combo of Quest Protein unflavored but I'm having the same issue HUGE scoop for 24gms BUT I did buy this product called coco protein. It's coconut Water plus 20gms of protein, lactose free and gluten free, 170 calories per 12oz. Let me tell you, that stuffs amazing it's got all kinds of Vitamins and full of electrolytes but mostly natural because it's coconut!! Anyway I love it and it comes it 2 flavors, chocolate and piña colada which is what I got and it totally taste like plain coconut water. Very refreshing!

100% Whey Protein Isolate is the way to go as it is a higher percentage of Protein. You can always add more liquid (Water, almond milk etc) to thin it out. As you are able to consume more you can pull back on the Fluid. Just sip on it longer to get it in. The protein is very important!

I'm actually looking for something I can add to my food- yogurt, Soups, etc. that's why I want a small scoop, because my portion size is so small. I tried putting some in refried Beans, and the amount I needed to add to get a decent amount of Protein was equal to the potion of my beans!

I'm going to try one of the ones listed that has 25 or so grams of Protein per scoop. At least then I can add 12+ grams of protein using half a scoop.

My husband suggested that I take 1 scoop of unflavored Protein powder and sprinkle it on things throughout the day (pudding, cottage cheese...). By the end of the day, I would get in that amount of Protein (let's say 24 grams - depending on what brand of protein you use). I think that is a super idea but haven't tried it yet. I tried to add a whole scoop to some broth at the beginning of my full liquids stage and it was not tasty to me at all. Good Luck to you! :)

I use Optimum Protein powder (24g protein, 1 not too big scooper) and Rule 1 protein powder (25g protein, 1 scoop, medium sized scooper). Lots of awesome flavors. Optimum is 100% whey protein and Rule 1 is 100% Isolate and Hydrolysate protein.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
