I am three days post op and took 5ml my pain meds today. Crystal Light Peach sugar free, Water, powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury chicken Soup and I just downed about 2 oz of Tomato Soup. Sorry my days are blending together.

Ok I have another one...I'm suprised that at officially one week out, I'm still experiencing pain in my main incision from which my stomach and hernia were removed. It's at a level 8! I called my doctor and they just advised me to call the office tomorrow morning to see about getting a refill on my pain meds. I don't think it's infected or anything, but I know I made a couple wrong turns and may have pulled on it too much. I'm hoping it subsides in the next coming days, but it's pretty bad.

How long did it take for you guys' pain to completely go away and go no longer need pain meds?

Honestly i haven't taken any pain meds. I've had some pain in my incisions but not really enough to need meds. Right now the worst for me is that my back really hurts

My back is hurting like no other! The incision pain FINALLY went away. Today is the first day I haven't taken pain meds. I had half a Protein shake (15g of protein) and a quarter cup of cottage cheese (7g of protein) and had no issues at all!

Things are looking up from here. I did wake up feeling drugged and exhausted, but things are coming along. I took some Smooth Move Tea to see if I can GO, nothing has happened yet.

That is my only complaint as of the moment...the back pain????, the Constipation? ??? and still feeling tired ????

These are some good ones! LOL to the delight over getting back to pureed foods after nothing but liquids! I remember how exciting it was to eat yogurt again.

My surprise was how little I looked back. Once it was done, it was done. I didn’t end up wondering if my WLS was a good choice. All I thought about was about now and the future: what to eat, how can I make sure this works long-term, how will I change my habits?

I was also surprised by how easy it was, while it was hard at the same time! I mean, I had to work at eating right, but everything went as well as possible – no complications, the weight came off like it should have.

I didn't realize how much money my husband and I were spending on fast food/restaurants BEFORE surgery!! We've saved so much and now since I eat so little...things are lasting alot longer!!! Guess I'll just have to spend my money on other things like shoes n clothes! ????

This site prepared me for the worst, so I was surprised that I did NOT have the shoulder gas pain, and did NOT have any hair loss. I was on a morphine drip at the hospital and on hydrocodone for two days at home. I thought I would need pain relief longer than that, but it was not necessary. So long as I did not bend or stretch too much, only the largest incision made me aware that there had been surgery.

That first bowel movement was like pushing a watermelon through a straw. After that I started taking either prune juice, Milk of Magnesia, stool softeners or a couple of magnesium tablets every day.

The other thing that surprised me was that I lost the first fifty pounds quickly, but the rest has come off in milligrams. Maintenance can be lost very easily. If I don't weigh my food and measure myself and stay under 50 carbs, I can easily regain 5 pounds in a week. This is definitely not the easy way out . It is an absolute war that will never end.

Do you mind sharing your starting weight with us? If not I totally understand. That's just scary to me that you "plateaued" after 50 lbs. My starting weight was 343, I'm now 297, and I'm hoping that get to at least 180-190, but 160-175 is preferred.

I am one month out and the only thing I wasn't expecting was just so hard it was going to be to drink and eat enough.

It's become a full time job!

Every day does seem to get a little better though.

Surgery was a breeze for me.

I was sleeved on Monday 8/17.

Sent home on Wednesday the 19th.

I was nauseated for 2 days but the Zofran really helped.

I had no pain, really.

Never took a pain med.

Went back to work the next Monday (so only took 1 week off).

I am down 28 pounds.

Been the same number for 4 days now. I have been expecting the 3-4 week stall.

I feel really good though!

I am on the pureed stage but really haven't pureed anything.

Just mashed a bit, and chewed thoroughly.

Tonight I had chicken and refried Beans.

About 1/2 cup total and was full!

This morning I had 1 scrambled egg and 1 Oz of smoked salmon.

Delish.

I am 3 weeks out. Things that have surprised me:

1). I got really nauseous in the hospital and my very tough nurse made me Learn to control it so I wouldn't damage my sleeve. It has gotten me through several nausea episodes.

2) I didn't expect to use the flavorless injury powder in everything. I bought a ton of the nector stuff and the injury broth but really didn't use it. I loved the Isopure even though it was so expensive.

3). I didn't expect that I would pull my abdominal muscle in the second week and have such Intense pain but not want to take my pain medicine.

I didn't expect to lose so much so quickly. I wish I could say that I feel energetic but it hasn't quite gotten to me yet.

I am so glad to have found this posting and thank Amber for asking the questions she did and for all of your answers. Two things I would love more info on is why can't some of you take crushed up pills and how do you stop yourself from throwing up?

I still have several more months to go before my sleeve and gallbladder surgery. I have been on the site since June and have learned so much and hope to learn even more. I want to be as prepared as possible. I am physically disabled and hope and pray this surgery will not only help me to lose weight but walk again.

I am brand new here. I had my gastric sleeve on 8/25/15.

I am surprised at a few things that I am experiencing. The first one is that I don't have to sip, sip, sip. I can take a normal drink of Water. The second thing I am surprised at is that I have not vomited at all. I am surprised by the fact that I still cannot tell when I am full.

I will about 1/4 cup of cottage cheese. It's satisfying but I don't feel full. Yesterday I was able to eat 2 hard boiled eggs. I thought maybe it was too much food but I had no after effects. attachicon.gif image.jpg

i got sleeved 8/27 I don't sip either, 3 gulps and I'm good more than that I get a stomach ache. Food I can eat some chicken as long as I chew it 100 times before swallow. However I don't feel fool :/

I was sleeved on 9/8 - just 5 days post op:

With the exception of never ending nausea on Day 2 post-op, I am surprised to have experienced very little pain. Morphine drip day one, tylenol 3 day 2 and that's been it.

Kind of nice to not be hungry and not thinking about when and what my next meal will be.

Very difficult to sip, sip, sip - I'm close, but still not getting in all of the liquids I should be.

Still cannot get comfortable enough to sleep for more than two hours, yet I am exhausted.

Because I do not want to be off of work any longer than necessary, I never thought I would be setting so many alarms/timers to keep me on track:

1. Get up

2. Sip, sip, Sip

3. Sip, Sip, Sip

4. Morning protien-

5. Shower/get dressed

6. Walk, walk, walk

7. Sip, Sip, Sip

8. Nap, Nap, Nap

9. Sip, Sip, Sip

etcetera, etcetera, etcetera

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
