Men hitting on you when you are fat

Recommended Posts

So I'm 26 now I recently sleeved, and this topic is WLS related. But since there are a lot of women here who are/were overweight and struggling with their weight, I thought I would ask a question about MEN. Can anyone relate to this problem?

I have been everwight since I were a child and this really affected my confidence. I'm still kind of a pretty-face girl, and men do hit on me from time to time (not that often, but it does happen). And yet i usually reject them right away, even when there is a certain physical attraction. I just assume they are approaching me cause the think I'm an easy target - 'obviously a chabby girl won't miss that kind of opportunity' kind of thing. I know it's pretty stupid sometimes, but then, it seems to me men often are much bolder and daring with overweight girls.

So from time to time it makes me think how many opportunities of meeting great men I missed because of my low self-confidence. Does anyone have/ did have the same issues?

It sounds like you have a lot to offer and they can sense that. Some guys like chubby women, some don't care. I didn't get hit on when "chubby" but that's just me. I'm not one of those people that others say "you have such a pretty face".

I don't think you are giving yourself enough credit.

I always felt the same way. I guess it's hard to know a guy's true intentions, since very few would come out and say they are just scamming for an easy target. I bet some had genuine good intentions though! Maybe give some of these guys a fair chance, and you might be able to tell fairly quickly who is interested in you as person. But, consider being aware of men who "like big women". If that's their preference they may not be supportive of your weight loss process.

@esskay77 thanks for the support and words of encouragment :)

@meggs353, yes, I can see what you mean about the weight loss. I'm actually not that interested in men at the moment, since I'm mostly interested in myself and my diet, which may seem egocentric but I find it healthy. :) So I'm not exactly looking for guys, may not be the best idea to get involved while there are drastic changes coming... That being said, if someone interesting happens to be there, I will try tu give him (and myself) some credit.

Thank you girls!

I understand what you are talking about. I have struggled with weight all my life. I have been told that I am beautiful, hot, gorgeous....but I don't see that. I have always avoided looking into others eyes because of my lack of confidence. Sometimes, I feel pretty when my hair is done, makeup on, and dressed up. Then I see other healthy thinner women and say to myself "what was I thinking, I don't have a chance" I have an extremely hard time with taking compliments. I have been married for the past 10 yrs and my husband loves me for me and is supportive with anything I do. I don't feel sexy or desirable at this weight and he knows that and he compliments me all the time, but I don't believe what he says. I am working on trying to love myself, but when I look in the mirror, I see so many flaws and wonder if others see those too. It would be nice for once to walk in a room and turn heads just to feel desirable. I have tried therapy, and don't feel like I get anywhere with that. Some men, love bigger women, or women with meat on their bones. My husband met me and I was more overweight then, than what I am now. He told me he didn't like anorexic women. Self confidence will improve once we see the physical changes. The part that is harder will be the psychological changes that will need to match.

This is a topic that really speaks to me. One of my reasons for getting lapband is that I felt it was vital that I experience life in a normal sized body, the body that I "should have had." (Sadly due to band complications this did not happen for me; I'm still fat and will not revise so I am resigned to never knowing what it will be like to be thin.)

However, I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that my choice in partners would have been much saner had I not been an obese woman during my dating years. I consistently "settled" and never partnered with a man who treated me in the way I deserved to be treated/honored/loved. Men who expressed interest in me were few, as is often the case with obese people. I settled, plain and simple. I do have two great kids so at least there's that. But I constantly wonder what kind of life I would have had had I been able to go through its important stages in a normal-size body.

Your sleeve will allow you to get to a normal weight. If you do some work on the mental side and clear out the consequences of what the years of obesity have done to your confidence, I'm certain you'll make choices that are good ones. Pat yourself on the back for doing this while you are young...you've just spared yourself a lifetime of physical and mental complications (hopefully).

Men hit on slim women just for sex all the time.

What a man wants from you is what a man wants from you, slim or fat.

Retro, there are men who LOVE big women...your curves are luscious and your bigness is very desirable to them. I found myself one of these men. And he fell in love with me, as a big women (I started the post "My man loves big women"). Just because society says that men should go after the women who look a certain way doesn't mean there aren't men who say "to hell" with society's standards. There are also some men who aren't ready to overtly acknowledge their love of the rounder woman so they stay in the closet watching big babes doing the nasty in porn (yes there are BBW porn stars - it is actually quite a popular.genre) and watch us from afar. Of course there are men who think big women are so desperate for attention that they are easy targets.. But I would wager a bet that most of those men were truly interested in meeting you.

@betrthnever, thanks for the words of encouragement. I guess your head is always your worst enemy. I hope I'll manage to work on that as I go on. :)

...

I guess what I am saying is this: when you do decide to enter the dating pool and you fear that someone will notice your flaws, they may be looking at them and it is exactly what they are wanting. We like people for their qualities, but we love them for their defects.

Well put, Big!!

Security! There's a man in the ladies room!

@BigViffer, I appreciate your good intentions, but what part of female-only-for-ladies-only don't you get? :)

No offense, of course.

Oops! I did not see that. That was not intentional. Since you are still new here, you'll soon see that men's only and women's only sub-forums are not always clearly marked when looking through unread threads.

I'll remove the post.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
