Post-Op, had the surgery 8/20. Based on everyone's experience when should be the first time, how often should I weigh myself? I have a post-op appointment tomorrow so I'm sure they will weigh me then but I don't want to be obsessed with checking the scale.

What do you guys do?

Once per week worked for me - in the beginning, I would weigh myself once a day (sometimes more than that). I would lose it if I didn't lose anything or *gasp* gained a fraction of a pound. For me, I can't weigh every day and keep my sanity. My husband went so far as to hide the scale from me and brought it out once per week.

I'm nearing 2 years out and I weigh myself once a week or so. Some will say they need the accountability and weigh themselves every day.

Whatever works for you - I'm not sure there is a "right answer"

Personally I waited for 1 week after surgery due to Water retention, swelling, all that hospital stuff. Then I started weighing daily for the next while. Now it's every few days . Everybody is different

Whatever works for you! I only weighed at dr appts for the first 6 weeks. After that, I only weigh once a week.

I would try to not eat or drink too much and weigh in the same clothes when you get home to see the difference. that way you will have a idea where you are for the next appt.

I weigh daily, first thing in the morning.

For the first six months, I only weighed at my dr appointment. Now I weight every two weeks. I was never disappointed and I refused to give my power to the scale. Follow your plan and the weight will come off. Everyone is different so beware not to compare yourself to others.

It has taken me almost 4 months to stop obsessing over the scale. It's not easy. If I could go back in time and save myself some anguish, I'd probably throw away my scale and only get weighed at the doctors office. Clothes and photos are a much better indicator. But really, do what works for you!

I always weigh on a Thursday, my surgery date with only a few variations. Honestly, I wish I could obsess over the scale. It would be so much easier than these other things my brain has picked up!

I weigh myself every day and have for 14 months since surgery. If something's not right, I want to know it and get a handle on it immediately. Not next week. Putting off facing the music until "next week" is what got me here. Good luck!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
