Do you weigh yourself everyday? Bad/good?

Recommended Posts

So I think I did something wrong I weigh myself everyday. I stepped on the scale today 2 lbs heavier from yesterday. How... Is this possible ????? Anyways do you step on it everyday? Should we ? Shouldn't we? Once a week? What do you think

I do not weigh every day; I give way too much power to the number that appears on the scale which has an effect on my self worth.

After surgery, I know I'll be excited, but I will continue to try and NOT weigh myself very often.

I weigh myself pretty much everyday...

I like to record my weight daily so I can see any gains, losses, or stalls and how long it lasted. Usually when I stall for a few days, I'll have a bowel movement (several) suddenly and lose 2 pounds the next day! I don't see my daily weigh ins as a bad thing because I know in my heart and soul that I'm giving it 100% right now, so if the scale doesn't reflect that it's just my body is not ready for it yet, a few more days and I'll see the results.

@@rejeannern I lost 7 pounds overnight just last week. Weight can fluctuate based on alot of different reasons including disease processes that I won't mention. As a nurse, I also see those extreme fluctuations in my patients daily, so it is possible :)

That happened to me today too. I'm doing what I'm suppose to and dr and nut said I'll stall. My clothes are so baggy so I'm losing inches. It's all good.

Every day for me. Right now while I'm trying different foods post op it helps me know that if the scale went up 2 lbs I probably shouldn't eat that food I tried yesterday. Plus I'm trying to find the right calorie range that will keep me losing but not be too low.

Except that is not an accurate way to tell how your body reacts to specific foods.

If you ate a box of donuts and the scale showed a pound loss the next day when you weighed; and then ate nothing but good Protein and vegetables the next day and you showed a gain on the subsequent day you would conclude that the box of donuts is good for your weight loss and the good Protein and vegetables is bad for your weight loss? I think not.

We have to understand that our bodies are complex systems and not simple machines.

I do every day. We have a Fitbit Aria scale that sends the measurements to the cloud so they're recorded there. If I don't want to see what it says, I don't have to look down (or can weigh without my glasses/contacts, so I can't see what it says!). But I really like having a graph going back years, and access to the data. Plus, my scale sends me cute badges when I do something good. Like yesterday, I got a notice that I'd lost 30 pounds and got a badge for that! :-)

However, if it didn't make me feel good, I wouldn't do it. And sometimes when I *know* I'm going to read high -- like after a long plane trip, when I always retain a lot of Water -- I just don't weigh that day.

NOT weighing regularly is one of the enablers of how I got to be over 300#. For me, weighing regularly is a key accountability step.

So, if you are the type to freak out over every little up and down - don't do it. If you are the type that understands weight fluctuates a little, you retain and release Water weight for unknown reasons, and it is the trend you are monitoring, i think it can be helpful. Just don't drive yourself (and us!) crazy everytime the scale doesn't match what you think it should (hey, I followed my program yesterday why did i gain a pound!?!)

when I was in the loss phase i weighed daily, but only Monday was my official weigh in day.

In maintenance I weigh around 3-4 times a week.

I weigh myself every day and have for the past 14 months. It helps keep me on track. If my weight starts to creep up, I want to know it and address it immediately, not next week. Putting it off to "next week" is what got me here.

I weigh every single day! Keeps me accountable, at first the little fluctuations drove me crazy but I have learned to deal with it. If I didn't get on the scale for a week and then my body decided to hold a bunch of extra Water I would have to wait another week to see it come off. Everyday weighing is the answer for me.....for the rest of my life. If I was not committed to weighing everyday it would be easy for me to slide back into old habits.

I weigh every day.. sometimes twice.. I'm obsessive. HAH.

In the beginning it bothered me if I was up a pound.. now that I'm my lowest weight in my adult life, it doesn't bother me at all.

Weighing daily can be good or bad, depending on the person. I weigh daily, and have since surgery. For me it is good, because it keeps me focused. I'm in maintenance, and I do fluctuate 5 pounds over the course of a week. I have read more than once lately that people who weigh daily tend to keep their weight off. I don't have an scientific evidence to support that claim, but it is true for me.

Probably the most useful thing I started doing for myself in maintenance is taking that daily weight and averaging it for the month, and then trending that data. Since I started doing that, I've realized my weight is very stable, within a pound or two. That's how I can really tell if I'm starting to creep up.

Love the idea of averaging it over a month.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
