Thank you all for your insightful responses. As i read these i can feel myself relaxing about all of this.

I say go for it. Your daughter is in the right place should an emergency arise and I know that would give me peace of mind.

I say continue as planned, for several reasons which were already mentioned above. Everyone is different & recovery will depend on your own body. However, I was up & walking 2 hours after surgery. I only used my 'happy button' for medication a few times (and for a prior spine injury that I take pain meds for), and took nothing after day of surgery. I was in the hospital 3 days & I was driving myself the day after I was released. In the end, I felt better a week after surgery than I did a week before!

Best of luck to you both!

I would have it done. You will be fine to drive. And I agree, you are going to be that much healthier when the twins arrive. Good luck!

I've never posted on here before...just reading posts for months. But please let us know how your daughter and her twins are doing. My twins were born at 23 weeks and although they're almost 10 now, it was a long, stressful road. Thinking of them!

I would have the surgery done. If you can get others to help, until you are about three weeks post op, You will feel so much better while you are even beginning to lose the weight.

Only you can decide what to do, that's just my opinion, hoping you make the right call for you!

Just to add on to what everyone else has said - the timing to have the surgery really does seem to be now.

As has been said - there will ALWAYS be obstacles and things that come up. As the old saying goes, if someone waits until 'the right time' or 'the right finances' to have children, there would never be any children born. The same applies here.

From another perspective - you said the children may likely be in the hospital for a bit, and one may have complications. So when would be a better time to have surgery - now, when they are in the hospital under close medical supervision, and only your moral support, not your physical attention is needed? Or later, when the children are home, and your daughter is trying to tend to them, and needs your physical help caring for two babies, one with possible medical needs? Seems to me like you should RUN to the hospital to get surgery ASAP! :)

Good luck to you, the new mommy, and the new littles!

I was back at work full time after 1 week. If you follow your doctors instructions and take your Vitamins your should have the energy. Only you know what is best for you! I personally would not cancel . Life will always throw you curve balls.

I can totally relate to this!! My mother was diagnosed in march of this year with bowel cancer, congestive heart failure, and a host of other things( that were related to her obesity in her 30-40's) so when I got my call for surgery for June 8th, I was sooo torn! Should I do it or put it off until who knows when?

Long story short, I went ahead with my surgery, and siblings and hired help took up the slack from me while I was recovering, which was only the 2 weeks and then could do moderate physical activity with no heavy lifting. Now 8weeka out and less weight, it is soooo much easier to care for her as she progresses. I am sooo glad I didn't listen to thst "little voice" thst was teibg me to put it off until later. Congratulations on your upcoming surgery and new grandchildren!!!!!

I'm feeling really confident this morning. We celebrated daughter hitting week 25 yesterday. With each day the babies get stronger. Hopefully my surgery will be without incident and I will be able to move and breath so much better. I tell you its a challenge just to park and get up to the hospital room to see her.

I moved 6 months ago, the back of the property is very hilly. At the bottom of the hill there is a lake. I've not been able to walk down that far. That is one of my goals.

I have told my siblings of my surgery and sworn them to secrecy regarding my 90 yo mom. Its been kind of freeing to share this plan with people after having it under my hat since March. And to hell with their opinions. I refuse to allow judgements to affect my process.

Thanks for your support. It really put me at ease.

You will be so sad if you don't get the surgery. Don't put it off. I was out in 1 day and the first 4 weeks I was weak but you will never get your surgery if you put everyone's needs before yours. You will still be able to be there for her!

I had my surgery date moved from July 30 to August 6 by the surgeon's manager and I got angry even over that one week. That is a week I'll never have back to enjoy my life at the other end.

Now, more to the point. My dad was in the same hospital as where I had my surgery being treated for a very serious respiratory condition, and is waiting to become stable enough to have stomach surgery. I was able to help him out with needs in his room while I was still a patient in the hospital and not really tolerating Water that well. I am currently doing everything for him despite working three hours away from home, and driving isn't an issue for me, despite the fact that, like you, I do feel very sluggish. I think when something is as important as your safety on the road, you are better able to concentrate despite diminished energy reserves. If you really didn't have the wherewithal to drive safely, chances are you'd be facing hospitalization for lack of nourishment. Unless you feel your abdominal pain exacerbated, just go ahead and do it, and continue to follow all other rules that do not detract from your ability to take care of your daughter.

I think most of the physical limitations are resolved by 72 hours following surgery, and after that, it is mostly psychological. However, listen to your body, and still build up your activity gradually, and don't try to find ways to do things that don't feel quite right the first time. They will come in time.

have the surgery as planned on Sept. 9

@@Nibbler

congrats on making a tough decision

(one that i agree with)

glad you aren't delaying surgery :)

you are putting yourself on the front burner

where you belong :)

as others have pointed out

if you start to postpone for this reason, or another

something will come up next time, and next time etc

who knows when and if you will ever get the surgery

don't know if there is a "perfect" time for surgery

best of luck to your daughter and "newbies" to arrive

your family, daughter, grandkids et al also will benefit from your improved health and happiness too :)

you are on the road to a healthier, happier, longer life

who deserves it more ;)

good luck next month

speedy recovery

kathy

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
