I'm pre-op for band-to-bypass. Surgery is on 8/24! It's been a whirlwind week, since I just found out my date last week. I've got just about everything done, but I found out today that my pulmonologist is making me do a pulmonology fitness test and a home sleep study before clearing me, so I do those tomorrow. My pre-op education class is on Thursday, so after that, I will be in the clear!

@@losing_the_band You are SO CLOSE! Congrats!!!

I love hearing stories of dedication and perseverance! We've all jumped through hoops and been poked and prodded and answered the same questions over and over and it's ALL GOING TO BE WORTH IT!!!

I actually got a surgery date today of 9/2! I could not stop crying when the office called me to schedule. I went through such a range of emotions that I didn't even expect to!

I am so excited for all of us..we're going to kick some weight loss butt and get healthy in the process!

@ -Awesome....you are getting your surgery on my birthday! I know what you mean by having a range of emotions. I just want the date! I don't have one yet but hopefully will find our the first week in September. I just feel like it has been such a long 6 months and when I got an additional month added on because of scheduling of a class that is only given once a month, I was so livid. I think it was just because my emotions are all over the place. This whole process has felt like being in limbo and I just want to get the show on the road. LOL....as dumb as it sounds I just want to be on pre-op diet and be that much closer.....

@@mlmanney Then that day must be good luck!!!

It's unfortunate to hear that you had to add on an additional month, but you've got this! You've come this far and you're gonna kill the extra month like you've killed the rest. I know how you feel though, with the impatience and the anxiousness. Yesterday I got the surgery authorization approved and cried almost all day because the Patient Coordinator in my surgeon's office was on PTO and I had to wait until today to get a date. LOL When I talked to her this morning, I said "who gave you permission to take time off?" LOL

My emotions have been a HOT MESS for the past two days. I can't imagine it getting any better from here!

Where in CA are you?

I know what you mean! I have held my tongue so many times with my coordinator, I should get an award! It's not entirely her fault, because the surgeon had her seriously overloaded, to the point where she actually quit (her last day was the day after I finally got my date). The surgeon was trying to open an office in a new area, but it was only open one day a week (it was a shared office between several practices), so she was trying to do everything that day and carting everything back and forth between offices. I had to send her so much stuff multiple times because she'd misplace things. She'd also tell me to do one thing and then later think that she'd told me to do something else, forget to tell me to come in for weigh-ins, etc. I barely kept myself from yelling at her by telling myself, "You can't scream at the coordinator! It will not help the process!" She finally gave up and got a job at another surgeon's office because she couldn't handle to workload and stress.

@@britt_lewis2011 Woooo congratulations girl! You are almost there! So happy for you :)

@@losing_the_band The coordinator at my office is the only one who schedules surgeries. There are a ton of people working there, but only she schedules! It's crazy! I told her that she was harder to get a hold of than the President! The first time I made contact with her, she was supposed to email me my lab requisition and a referral for radiology for my chest xray and it took her THREE DAYS from the day we spoke, with me reminding her EVERY DAY! I was so so mad! Once I actually met her, and saw her desk..I got over it. She is one busy lady! I love her to death now that I know her and I think I've become her favorite because I'm always so positive and forgiving lol

@ I'm sure it will be a super lucky day for you! I've needed a tool like this for the past 20 years so what is another month I guess.....It is hard not to get antsy though!

How dare the coordinator take a day off......LOL.. I have found I get super sensitive to things that aren't even my problem. I am in the Inland Empire(southern california)....where are you? I am from Sacramento but my hubby's job brought us to Southern CA. All my family lives up there. Where are you? I have 2 grown kids, both in college. I started this journey in Feb/15, so ready!!! when did you start?

@@britt_lewis2011 wow....exciting...hopefully you will be starting your pre-op diet soon! congrats on jumping through all the hoops!

@losin_the_band It is so frustrating when we are on edge and anxious and people keep losing reports and such. I had to get 2 of my reports faxed twice because they didn't know where they were. I was so frustrated and to have to keep calling places to ask they to send the reports again was annoying. I keep trying to keep my eye on the prize and try to keep my emotions in check.

I am currently in Sacramento! I'll be in SoCal (hopefully) mid October. I had a Disneyland trip planned before getting my surgery date, when I thought it would be a lot longer to get in, and I'm hoping I"ll have recovered enough to go. Both the dietician and surgeon have told me it should be good, with all of the walking, but I don't know how my abdomen will feel so I'm up in the air right now.

I started this process in February as well! My insurance required 6 months of weigh-ins along with numerous other adventures that are FINALLY OVER! I can't believe I have 3 weeks left!!

I am currently preop although I have done all my clearances and have my surgery date (9/21). Just looking for some preop friends to talk with up until (and after) surgery. We could help keep eachother on track diet wise, and could help ease any fears we are having. (we all have those fears that our non-overweight friends or spouses just don't quite get). I am located in upstate NY but I am open to talking to anyone from any location. I do have Facebook etc if you prefer chatting that way. Who knows, we may become great friends!:)

I'll hop in here and represent the 20%. :)

I'm pre-op, start my pre-op diet tomorrow, and surgery is in two weeks - 8/25. A little nervous, a lot excited!

Look forward to chatting with you all through our processes!

Oh wow! What r the chances! You should still go to Disney! As long as you have a fridge in the hotel to bring your own food/shakes. Rest when you need to. You might feel better than you think but I know what you mean. We had planned a trip to Utah labor day weekend. My original dates for surgery was to be in August. I was worried. Now it'll be after that. I can't lie I'm relieved except that I might be on prep diet. Are you from up there? My family and hubby's all live up there.

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
