CT Scan w/ contrast

Recommended Posts

So dr decided I need to get CT scan to check for internal hernia and / or gallbladder issues following a severe pain incident last week. I just made the appt and i have to drink 32 oz of "dye" before the scan. They usually ask you to come an hour early but said to come 1 1/2 hours early. I am assured the liquid is quite thin (not like the barium junk I had to do pre-op). Anyone have any experience with this and can soothe my fears of getting this in? I am 8 weeks post-op today and when I am intentionally trying, I can get 16 oz of Water down in an hour. Just not sure I can do 32 oz....

I am so sorry you are having trouble! I hope that they can figure out what is going on and get it straightened out for you.

I had to do that at 1 week post op. It was... unpleasant. The drink is just like Water, but has a metallic taste. Kinda like surgical instruments were soaked in it (at least that's what I imagined). The bottle I had was bigger then 32 oz and there was no way in hell I was going to be able to finish it in 1 hour. With lots of pushing I was able to get through half. They never said anything and the CT scan came out just fine. The worst part was the day after. I tasted, smelled, peed and crapped a metallic smell. But in the grand scheme of things that's not so bad. Just annoying. You'll do fine.

Thanks guys. I'm anxious but at least it's not 1 week out. I don't know how you did that @@snowkitten! I mostly anxious about vomiting it up before I can get the scan done. Ugh. I'm sure it will be fine. Will let you know how it goes.

Just an update in case anyone stumbles across wondering same - drinking it now and it just tastes like Crystal Light lemonade. Not too bad at all! I was picturing that horrible stuff I had to drink for the upper GI. Ugh.

Oh you were lucky. I agree it tasted very metallic. Poor people sitting near me. Every sip I took I threw up. I was there for two hours, it was miserable plus the pain I was experiencing. Ugh, hope never to have to do that again.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
