Those of you that drink alcohol

Recommended Posts

hello,

I do drink only wine and coctails, but nothing bubbly.

I havent waited too long to drink alcohol again like a month or two:-)but I dont drink much like once or twice a month, but then its usually at a party so I drink like 4 glasses of wine.

I once tried bubbly wine and I got bad stomach cramps since the bubbles were going from the lower stomach back again to my pouch. It really hurt so since then I dont drink bubbles:-)

But as I know some people tolerate beer pretty well.

About 3 weeks post op I was at a Mexican restaurant and REALLY wanted a Margaritta, I got a frozen one and started to slowly sip it. About 1/2 thru I knew I was in trouble and by the end I would have sworn I had 4 of them! It went down okay but wow, I couldn't believe how drunk I was on only one of them! This is a local place where I have drank 4 or 5 in a night before. Anyway, havn't had anything else, but this weekend is my birthday so I'll probably try again.

Greetings posters! I have been researching the forum because I am considering the lapband. One of my concerns involves food and wine. I am in the wine business, and I travel and entertain customers in restaurants constantly. I have at least one glass of wine every day. I think I can manage the limits on food - I can certainly reduce the amount of wine I consume, but part of what I do for a living is talk about how wine goes WITH food. Is it going to be impossible to drink my wine with the meal? Will the lapband change how things taste to me? Also, I travel weekly for my work - how soon do you think I can be back at work and travelling?

Thanks for your time.

To be honest, when I go out and have a nice meal, I have my wine with my dinner. It's not like you will spontaneously combust if you do. It's my choice. I prefer the company and a good glass of wine with a fine meal. This isn't something I do every day, so I don't worry about it one whit. Since you are in the wine business are you CONSTANTLY having dinners with people? I guess that's what you'd call an occupational hazard...if you can keep the instances down to a dull roar, and just have one glass of wine, it would probably be okay if you are careful the rest of the time. Much as I love wine, they are definitely empty calories.

Amen, Kacee. I'm so happy to hear this. Before I heard "NO alcohol with the band!Ever!" .....And frankly...I'm a bit of a wine snot/slut. The idea of not being able to wind down with a nice glass of Pinot Noir or Reisling makes me want to weep.

Hello all...I drink wine mainly.

My son was married one month to the day after surgery, July 7. We had a yard reception at my house, bartender, and I selected two cases of wine, etc. I drank, and I think with the combination of the release of stress up to the wedding and not having the capacity to drink, I was waisted. My son said the next day, " Mom, I don't think you can drink so much anymore after the band...YA THINK!!"

I do like a corona light also, and have had one or two, but I really stick to wine, about 2-3 nights a week. I have to confess that if I go Mexican I do have a rita like the rest of you!

I did ask the doc before surgery, if alcohol would cause erosion of the band. I am not sure where I heard that one. He laughed actually. He said if the wine did not bother me before it would not now. I did not want to sound like I was dependent on alcholol, but I wanted to know!

I think the big strategie is the calories that come with alcohol drinks! Especially ritas and white russians.

Hang in!

MMMMmmmmmm.... I have two favorites.

I have a HUGE lemon tree in my back yard. Best lemons in the world. They are the size of grapefruit, weird buggars. Fresh Lemonade made by me and only me with a bit of Bacardi. Yum.

When in Mexico (we go for group fills, anyone in Phoenix goes at the same time) and we go to the grocery store, buy mega cheap Bacardi, order room service for freshly made pineapple juice and oh my goodness, that's some seriously good stuff.

Never was a beer drinker and that's good. Carbonation hurts, some can do it and I'm not one of them.

I drink ..often, alot and it does not seem to be any different than before my band. I know it isn't good--my friends just love happy hours..hahaha...I usually always drink beer and usually up to 12 on weekends if I'm there for long periods of time (BEFORE ANYONE SAYS ANYTHING--YES I HAVE A D.D.)

Luckily I don't get overly hungry when I drink now like I did before LB. It has not made any impact on my losing weight or has not 'stretched' anything. I think if you do the moderation thing and watch your food, you'll be fine.

Be careful of the beer. There was a study recently that suggested there is possibly a link between carbonation and band slippage. I don't think anything else is an issue other than the empty calories. In moderation, is probably fine

I"m not a big drinker, I only drink a handful of times a year. And on those times, I drink to get drunk.. not to be social.

I was probably medium with how much it took to get drunk.. 3-4 good drinks did it..

Somehow I got pulled into goin to a bar with co-workers about 3 weeks post-op. 1 drink did it for me. I was loopy and giggly.. and I had 2 more drinks for kicks!

Then 2 weekends ago at the casino, I had a shot of 'something cookie'.. was gold schlager(sp) with cinnamon something.. anyway, that got me loopy too. So I'm a lightweight now.

I don't drink carbonation, but beer tastes like piss to me anyway.. so no beer here!

My dad is addicted to rum punch since he had it in Atlantis..

He makes it with grapefruit juice, pineapple juice, orange juice, coconut rum, and normal rum.

I saw my surgeon's dietician for the first time a couple of weeks ago and not once, not twice, but THREE TIMES she told me, "You cannot drink beer after you've been banded." I had just finished telling her that I drink once, MAYBE twice a year so I was thinking, "WTH? Do I look that much like Norm from Cheers to her?"

I have what might be a stupid question. What makes you get drunker faster after you've been banded? Is it because you weigh less?

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
