Does everyone's hair fall out?

Recommended Posts

Not everyone. My doctor advised me to take Biotin a few months before surgery. For those who experienced loss it will grow back once your nutrients are back on par.

I'm experiencing it now at four months out. I take Biotin and hair skin & nail pills. It seems to be working. I also take a Multivitamin. I'm hoping it passes quickly.

I am just over 3 months out and my hair has been coming out a lot it seems. I can run my fingers thru my hair and end up holding quite a bit. (At least to me it seems like a lot) I'm getting a bit worried as well and I hope the Hair loss doesn't last too long. :(

Biotin is helpful, usually you will need to start this before surgery because it takes a few months before it really gets into your system. I take a chewable version that I bought at Walgreens. 5000 mcg.

I think everyone is different but if I recall I started after 4 months or so. It slowly grows back but I have to admit I hope it grows some more.

I have noticed my hair falling out and thinning but at the time I wasn't taking any Biotin or calcium citrate to help prevent it now I am and I'm noticing less and less hair falling out and it us getting thicker

Mine is! But unlike most people, I'm kind of thrilled. My hair has always been really REALLY thick and ridiculously hot, especially for Texas. :)

I was a psych nurse at a state mental hospital. The patients that were there often stayed for over 3 months. It was stressful and lots of them complained of hair loss. Sometimes the meds causes it but sometimes it was poor eating habits and stress.

All of the patients were put on a selenium supplement by the psychiatrists. One of my daughters had to wear a heart monitor for 3 months before she had heart surgery. She was under a lot of stress, unable to play sports and always afraid her heart was going to have an episode. She lost tons of hair, I believe due to stress (she was on no meds). I put her on selenium and her hair came back.

I have seen the complaint about Hair loss in relation to WLS and am surprised I have never seen the suggestion to take selenium.

I'm kinda with you. My hair has always driven me crazy. If it gets to where it touches my ears and off it comes with a razor or clipper. As a kid I'd have to sneak off with my grandpa to the barber shop and get it whittled back.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
