Pain from Band to RNY revision

Recommended Posts

What has been the pain level/recovery from this surgery. I have been seeing some posts that are disheartening. I think I have a high threshold for pain. Any experiences or ideas would be helpful.

I am 5 weeks out from surgery doing great! I had revision from a lap band to bypass. I am so glad to be free from the band after 9 years! I also have a high tolerance to pain so once I was home I did just fine. I needed no pain meds after week 2 and then I was just taking hydro codone at night. I have lost 30 lbs! Go for it! I was worth it!

I did really well. More pain than after the band but there was a lot of scar tissue associated with my band. I am two months out and doing great. Was home from the hospital the next day. The muscle pain was gone by the 4th week.

I had my revision on Monday and I feel great! I had the band removed, a hernia repaired and RNY Bypass. I'm already off all pain meds, stopped napping and going for walks outside. I live alone and haven't needed any help, even though I've had lots of offers from friends and family.

Don't get me wrong, I do have pain and discomfort--I feel like I did about a million sit ups, and it is hard to get up and off off the couch. The incisions are sometimes stabbing me, and I hate hate hate the drain... But really this is nothing. It's waaaaaaay easier than recovery was when I had the band put in, 6 years ago!

Well i am 5 days out from revision and it still a little tuff to get around. I had a lot of scar tissue as well and it makes it worse. I am so glad i am on here. I do have a question...is anyone else experiencing a sort of bad breath?

I was banded in 2010 and had a revision to the RNY in October 2014. IT WAS THE BEST DECISION OF MY LIFE!!!!! I was in the hospital for three days when I had both surgeries. With the band I could barely get out of bed because I hurt so bad. With the revision to RNY, 4 hours after my surgery I was walking laps around the hospital. Of course you are a little tender, but it was so much easier than the previous surgery. I also had a c-section in 2005 when I had my daughter, the RNY was easier than that. Make sure you go into the surgery with the mentality that you are going to come out of the surgery as a winner, that you've got this. As long as you set your mind to it, you will do great. My surgeon has done many surgeries and he said that I made it look easy. Honestly, my goal was to be released from the hospital before my 3 day mark was up. Their policy trumped my wanting. LOL! Also, with the band I didn't lose any weight. All my weight-loss was before the lapland surgery and after the RNY surgery. A total of 89 pounds, with 50 of those being post op for the RNY. I've kinda of hit a plateau, but that is because my family and I took two months to move from Georgia to Alaska. On the road eating isn't easy or healthy. I hope it works out for you!!!!

Is it from where the port was? I am still very tender right there. If someone pokes me there when playing around, it hurts.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
