Temptations

Recommended Posts

It is so hard at times to remember why I did this journey. I come to work and they order pizza or they have doughnuts and of course those are my two favorite things! Ugh but I have been able to resist! Yay!

Yes, my weakness is candy and it takes such willpower to resist.

You might be surprised to find you don't like those things anymore or you don't like the way they make you feel.

I was totally craving ice cream. I had a bite and it was awful. It was totally sickeningly sweet and cloying. I tried it again a week later and it was the same way. The sugar free fudgesicles taste much better to me now.

We went to a birthday party Friday night and I had a bite of the cake. Same thing - it was sickeningly sweet and nasty.

And a nice medium rare ribeye or filet mignon or NY strip tastes so much better to me than pizza now - yum!

I understand completely. I'm 8.5 months post-op and the more foods I introduce into my diet, the more I'm tempted to eat bad things. They order out ALL the time at my work and sometimes I can resist and sometimes I can't. If I don't resist then I just make myself pay for it later at the gym.

Now when you are at work, just think about all the nasty coworkers who do not wash their hands after using the bathroom and then touch that food. They're picking at those donuts with filthy hands and sneezing on that pizza before taking some. You know they have to touch every donut before they get the one they want.

Can I 'like' this about a hundred times??

Well I never thought about my coworkers not washing their hands and touching food until now! YUCK! lol I think I will keep that in mind. I have lost the taste for a lot of foods I used to like. They just don't taste the same anymore.

My desk sits about 12 feet away from the men's room at my office. I can personally vouch for this being way truer than anyone thinks. And it's not just that one weird guy that smells funny who does it. I no longer eat anything that is brought into the office unless it's brought by me or my bff, and even then I only eat it if I can get to it before everyone else.

I am finding that it gets easier to say no to things the more often I do it. Key lime pie was a huge favorite of mine and I've said no to it twice now. Not even one bite. When I was asked if I wanted just a bite I said, "you know I just don't want to fall off the

wagon" and was perfectly understood.

The longer you stay away from those foods, the less pull they will have on you. Virtuous feels better than pizza tastes. Or so I keep telling myself.

I dunno if practice makes you perfect.

But it makes you better.

I still can't that comment about how germ-laden all of our co-workers probably are -- eeuw!

Ditto what @@CanyonBaby said. If you know there is going to be a party or eating event, bring along food you know you can eat: veggies and dip, nuts, cheese, Jerky, yogurt, baked chicken strips with a dipping sauce, etc. Note the connection between most of those items -- Protein. The message here is planning! Never get caught without an acceptable eating solution. I keep Jerky and nuts in my car at all times for emergencies. And on my way to goal, I've had to use them a lot!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
