I'm 3 days post op and my stomach is roaring like a lion! And I'm hungry!!!! Is this normal?

Stomach growling is normal, but in conjunction with being hungry, it makes me wonder if you are on a PPI? You might want to discuss that with your surgeon. If you are on a PPI, you might need a higher dose or a stronger medication than your current one.

You're either dehydrated or are developing too much acid. Same happened to me after surgery. My doctor kept me on Clear liquids an extra 2 days because I was so dehydrated that I could cause my kidneys to fail.

Shortly after I was hydrated, I developed so much acid reflux that I was convinced that I was STARVING. Fortunately, I got ahold of Zantac (anti acid) and BAM. Back to normal! Now I feel like a real bariatric patient!!! ????????????

My nutritionist also has us on a anti acid from day 1. Keeps acid down and helps the stomach as it heals. I find my stomach gurgles when I try to eat too fast. It gurgles away when I eat or drink. ..it's happy most if the time 9 days post op and I am doing pretty good. ..

I'm 8 days post-op and have had "hunger pains" (or whatever they are) for several days now. They're very strong and I feel them all the time. It makes me feel like I'm starving (which, technically, is true!!), but sadly can't drink/"eat" enough to fill that void.

I'm on Prevacid, BTW... not sure how that affects things.

I'd love to hear from others who've experienced strong hunger pains within a week of surgery. Does it ever disappear? Or am I condemned to have super-strong hunger pains (with a tiny stomach) for the rest of my life?

I had this happen too. I had my surgery on June 24th. At first the growling kind of hurt, but now it's faded away.

This happened to me 5 days post op. I felt so hungry and although I was sipping consistently, I was hungry. I don't have issues with acid reflux. I basically took a nap to avoid the feeling. I realized that I wasn't getting much Protein and did my best with my Protein powder (yuck).

A few days later, when a Protein shake was okay (after the Clear liquids phase), I had one and felt full the entire day. My struggle is still to get enough Protein b/c when I feel full, I'm not interested in continuing to sip.

Yes, mine gurgles all the time too. Part of it is air/gas.

When I went to my 7 day post op appt yesterday I mentioned this and asked them if it was normal to feel hungry most of the time. They said it was and that progression with food, eating mushed and so on it will get better.

I really hope so! :)

I had my surgery on the 7th. Have the same problems. I'm starving it feels like no matter how much Jello or broth i drink. Did it go away. Do you get full now that you're eating solid foods? How much solid food does it take for you to feel full?

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
