Family support issues

Recommended Posts

I am considering doing the sleeve surgery. I am meeting for the first time with the surgeon on July 9th and I am very close with my sister and when I told her I'm considering this all she had to say was a bunch of negative things and how everyone she's ever heard of that's done the surgery regrets it and on and on about how bad it could be. I can't seem to understand why she'd be so negative to me, I really need all the support in considering doing this that I can get. Thankfully my husband and kids are supportive. Any advice on how to get over the hurt from the negative attitude?

Those comments were not about you but about her. In reality how many people could she have spoken to that would have said they regretted their surgery? Maybe she is envious, maybe she is scared for you, who knows what she is thinking. No matter what hold your head high and know that you have made a decision to be healthy. That is more important than her comments and lack of support.

Good luck with your journey and glad your husband is supportive. You will do great!

Hi I agree we all have had at least one of those story's told to us usually in a tone and attitude of why cant u control yourself and just eat less and excercise more well if that was possible we wouldn't consider this would we honestly I have to say that I really feel that if people don't experience it they really can't understand it's sort of like telling a drug addict not to take drugs well duhhh if only it was that simple right?

I think shrinking peach may be right and that its a jealousy related issue possibly because my sisters always been a bit heavier then me.

I'm just starting this journey and I will not tell my close sister. She and I are very close because we are sisters, no other reason. I know she will be super catty about my choice and I don't want to hear it.

I am going tomorrow to the surgeon and will get my date for surgery. Unfortunately my car is in the shop so my father has to take me. My mother has been very supportive and the rest of my family even if they may not agree with my decision they don't say negative things they're just concerned about my safety. Today my father said to me that once I found out I was having surgery I gave up losing weight myself on my own and why can't I lose weight on my own? I have no idea how I'm going to get through tomorrow I'm nervous enough as it is. That said I can totally associate with your having family members not agree with your choices.

I hope your able to stay focused today on your goal and tune out any negativity. Even though I think part of my sisters issue is a bit of jealousy I do think part is also fear of the unknown because she is terrified of needles, surgery, things like that and she's scared that something could happen to me. Best of luck to you in you journey.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
