You are further then I am! I have my EGD scheduled for 8/19 and the first nutrition class available was 8/20. Had a sleep study done previously hope that'll work and I have a psychiatrist that should write a clearance letter for me on 8/4. It's so crazy everything that has to be done! Kind of scary! Have you told anyone at work about your plans?

I told my coworkers at my m-f job and they are very encouraging and a few people at my weekend job knows and one of my coworkers had the bypass done, she was my motivation to do the surgery. I haven't said anything to my family, just my cousin and my husband and kids. Have you told anyone?

Some of my co-workers not my boss but she actually had something done idk of bypass, sleeve, or band. I am curious but don't want to over step because I know some people aren't as open to discussing. I know after surgery co workers are going to be my biggest support which is why I am so open. My boyfriend and parents know and they are all so supportive. I am a tad bit nervous it could create more jealousy between my boyfriend and I when I start losing. He wasn't too thrilled when I told him the doctor would be happy to see me around 145 but I can't remember ever being that small and he has never seen me that size so maybe he and I both will come around to that idea! What's your goal weight?

Well I was just told I really can't lose weight before or my insurance could deny to cover the surgery since I am so close to the needed BMI with no other health issues. Frustrating!

I am just so uncomfortable I almost didn't fit on a ride at the fair tonight! That was such a wake up to me. I used to just laugh it off and make being a big girl a joke but that was my way to cope with my negative body image I wish I could get this done so much sooner!

Hi everyone :) I have my sleeve surgery with Dr. Peters on 8/17/15. Can any of you tell me if you had to do blood thinners and what your hospital stay experience was ? Thanks ladies

Most of the time people who are on blood thinners need to stop them for a time before dental cleanings and surgery. I have never heard of needing to take blood thinners prior to surgery.

I am actually in PA but work in DE. I had my surgery in Langhorne, PA.

I was in for 2 nights. My surgeon does not use drains. I had a catheter the first night and had to walk with the catheter. Getting back in bed with the catheter was uncomfortable if I didn't line things up right. I am glad I had it the first night. I didn't need to worry about leaking and not being able to get to the bathroom quickly enough.

I did use some pain meds but not much. I was walking within a couple of hours of waking up after surgery. I never had the gas pains many people have.

I took an oral pain narcotic pain med abut 45 minutes before my husband came and picked me up. I had an hour plus car ride home. I wanted to make sure I was as comfortable as possible. I took one narcotic pill that night to make sure I got a good night's sleep and did not take any pain meds after that, not even Tylenol.

I would say the first couple of days my pain level was like I had done way, way, way too many sit-ups. That really tight feeling when you would first try to sit up from laying down or stand up from sitting down. It would loosen up and get less uncomfortable as I walked around or moved around.

The next couple of day was more like I had done too many sit-ups. After the first week I only got a few twinges occasionally.

My nurses told me to breathe out when I was trying to sit up from laying down and breathe when I was going from sitting to standing. Holding your breath tenses the stomach muscles and makes it more uncomfortable.

Good luck. It will be so worth it.

Hi Everybody! I was sleeved back in 12/2011 by Dr. Wynn. I'm considering a revision as I feel like my weight loss surgery failed. At my peak I lost 35 lbs. Over the last 4 years I've slowly crept back up. Thinking about going to the support group. I didn't do my follow ups like I should have because I didn't feel like I was doing a good enough job. Anyone know of anyone else who had a revision due to reasons like my own? Thanks!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
