Could use some ideas

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone!

I has RNY in September and I have been doing very very well. I am down 105lbs at this point and right now losing every day. Part of the reason I am losing so much now is because I just had spine surgery that was performed through my throat. I had that surgery completed on 6/3.

I am in a decent amount of pain but am coping very well. The issue is I am having a very difficult time eating and drinking much of anything worth while. Apparently this is normal for this type of surgery but I have not found cases where the patient had both RNY and spine surgery so close together. I am not even coming close to my Water requirement and have been getting cramps.

I cannot seem to find much to eat that does not get stuck in my throat and require liquid to go down. I am of course drinking icy cold Protein Shakes because I am worried about not getting enough Protein. I have also started eating full fat pudding because it is icy cold and does not seem to get stuck.nright now I need both the dairy and the sugar sure isn't hurting. I am lucky if I manage 40gr of protein and a total of 300 calories. This of course has been going on since last week Tuesday.

Does anyone have any ideas for very soft savory foods that might help me? I choke on Beans and cheese. I have been doing ok with very very mushy chicken noodle Soup. I am looking for things that will slide down my throat without chewing. I am pretty tired of pudding, chicken soup and cottage cheese. Cottage cheese has worked well for me.

I heard there is a recipe for some type of baked ricotta? Anyone have a recipe like that?

Thanks in advance for you help! I really was not expecting this throat issue to be so bad and they tell me it could be many more weeks of this!

Hi DJMohr!

Sorry to hear about your 2nd surgery. I saw "spine surgery through the throat" and immediately shuddered! You're a brave lady.

Have you taken a look at theworldaccordingtoeggface? I tried to grab the website for you but I'm at work and they block blogs. She's a bariatric patient and has a ton of recipes. She has a baked ricotta recipe on there that looks delicious!

Hope that helps!

I know you are tired of chicken Soup but you might want to get some ProtiDiet Soups. I lived on the Tomato basil and creamy chicken during my liquid phase. Can you do cottage cheese and yogurt? You can make greek yogurt savory.

Best of luck. I hope your recovery goes well.

So sorry you are in so much pain! :( I can't even begin to imagine what you are going through. Not sure if this would work or not, but what about making your own Protein popsicles with greek yogurt and some Protein powder or the pudding and Protein Powder? I haven't tried these yet but bought my own popsicle molds in anticipation of doing so. I guess that's not savory though...

I agree with the previous posting that yogurt is pretty good and Yoplait Greek 100 has a lot of Protein and good flavors. Also ensure active high protein has 19 grams of protein and vanilla and chocolate flavors so you can add to your diet. The ensure is 8oz so you don't have to worry about drinking a whole lot. If you could tolerate a egg drop Soup that's loaded with protein. You can try making your own. Feel better soon.

Blend equal parts ricotta and pumpkin purée, 1 egg, a bit of pumpkin pie spice and a tiny bit of a sweetener of your choice like Splenda. Cook on stove in large frying pan stirring until egg is cooked through and the consistency changes. It's like pumpkin oatmeal, so good!

Miso Soup or maybe some Thai soup if you have a restaurant in your town. I'm so sorry about your spinal surgery! I hope it brings you a lot of relief, though.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
