I have my first visit this week. It's only the history and physical part but what can I expect? Anything I should know? Excited to finally be starting the process.

I am scheduled for surgery for June 23. Don't be afraid to ask any question to the dr. and staff. Read as much as you can. I'm so happy for you. Good luck.

If you need motivation look up to long term chains on this site: "Sex oh my god sex" and "You know when you lost weight when" -both will make you smile, laugh and give you hope for the journey. Then you can look up technical stuff at your leisure.

What will the physical entail? I mean as a female if you know what I mean. I keep up on my yearly gyn visits. I won't have to go that far will I? Lol

Well I had my first visit today. It went well. I suppose I'm very healthy. No ailments and I don't take any meds. The nurse practitioner said I was boring health wise and that boring was good. Lol

My surgeon does require I have an EGD done. I'm a little nervous. Can anyone share what it was like for them?

@@Mary Jane T I had my EGD performed yesterday and can't stop talking about how easy it was! And this comes from someone that is terrified of doctors, needles, ect. In fact I an so scared of pain that I never had children.

I arrived at the hospital at 7:00 and my procedure was supposed to start at 8:00. When the nurse wheeled me to my car and I looked at the clock it was only 8:05! The actual procedure only takes 10 minutes! I didn't feel any nausea from the anesthesia. No coughing or sore throat at all! In fact I have been wondering if they did anything...lol

Hope your goes as smoothly as mine!

Thank you for that response. I'm not normally afraid of stuff but for some reason I have been lately. I canceled another procedure unrelated to WLS last month bc I just couldn't go through with it. I hope mine is as easy as yours for sure. My youngest daughter had a severe stomach bleed a few yrs ago and we almost lost her. She had to have two separate scopes done. Maybe my anxiety is bubbling up from that.

No need to stress. Just a heads up, don't miss any appointments related to your wls, you may have to begin the process from the beginning. Most insurance companies require a consecutive appointment history. My waiting period with my insurance is 6 months. I will be having my procedure sometime in September. My Drs office doesn't give exact date until all your appointments are finished unfortunately.

Me too! I am so excited. I have a cousin who had the procedure last year. So I've been asking lots of questions. What are you most nervous about? Me...the pain afterwards. And losing my hair.< /p>

I can deal with pain really well, but the first night of laparoscopy on your stomach feels like it's going to burst. Had my gall bladder removed last year

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
