First Fill 5/28 still hungry

Recommended Posts

I had my first fill on 5/28. 2cc was added to my band. As of today, I am still unsure if I am eating correctly. I get hungry and when I eat, I stop eating while I am still a little hungry thinking I may be eating too much. Then I am getting hunger pangs about 3 hours again. Am I eating too little?

I heard that the fill doesn't work "right a way'. If that is the case how long does it take to start effecting how much or how little I eat.

My first fill was 4cc's, 4 weeks after surgery...2nd fill was 4 weeks after that.

Between my first and 2nd fill I GAINED weight.....

First fill did absolutely nothing. Plus at 4 weeks I was coming off the post-op diet and back on regular foods...with NO restriction so naturally I gained as though the band was not even there....

Second fill was 2cc's, for a total of 6....after that, I did not gain, nor loose much either...things kind of came to a standstill....

It took my 3rd fill, of 1cc, to put me over the top, into the Green Zone, where my eating and hunger was brought under control and I started to loose weight steadily every week.

This also was the hardest part of the weight loss process because I had to adapt to what was going on as far as following all the rules, choices of food, etc.

But once I got that down, changing my mindset and habits to adjust to the band, (not the other way around)...it all became the easiest thing possible....best decision I ever made.

Still cruising along without a single issue. But that first 6 months, that was a frustrating struggle to say the least.

Do not judge your bands fills with those of other people....I have noticed everyone reacts differently....including successful people who have completed the process without ever getting a fill.....

It's something you need to learn for yourself.....

I am feeling very discouraged and impatient!! I have only had one fill of 1ml and my doctor will only see me monthly and will only give me 1ml at a time.

I am seriously thinking about filling my band myself, has anyone ever done it?

I had 3 cc recently (my first fill) and I feel like I have to restrict myself more than the band does. I'm not really losing weight either so I guess I have to wait until my next fill. I will be on vacation and that probably won't be easy either. I ordered some portioned meals from the Bariatric Choice website to try to help me stay on track until then. Good luck!

45678...nobody fills their own band! Not only is it very dangerous you will most likely be discharged from the doctor that you currently have. It's common practice for doctors to give 1ml fills... Or even smaller in some cases. Your not the only one that feels discouraged and impatient, we've all been there. You just need to realize this is a process and takes some time. You didn't gain the weight over night and you won't lose it that way either. Things will get better... Just give it time. Good luck ????

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
