Congrats!

Happy Birthday Diva! You look great in your new avi!

Today-

B-coffee w/torani Syrup, some farrina

L-nothing :crying: (I wasn't feeling well)

D-hot tea, Soup (I have some serious sinus issues today)

To the posters asking about the amounts that people eat, I have had 7(or it might be 8) fills to get restriction. This is the first time since banding that I haven't really been snackish between meals. I think getting to good restriction takes time. My doc isn't aggressive with fills, so I had absolutely no restriction until maybe the 5th fill.

Thanks slim/August..

Yesterday

b-south beach living time me over

l-seafood tostada

d-1/4 of bbq bacon cheeseburger (no bun) and few spoons of fettuccine alfredo (shirataki noodles)---weird craving

1 hr at the gym

didn't add yesterday's meal

I have a silly question for anyone, everyone...are we all eating enough calories? The trainer I once had told me that I'm Not eating enough and that's why I'm not loosing weight. My husband and I think that I'm doing and eating just fine, so does the doctor. Just wanted to know if anyone else has been told that or thought that.

you've lost quite a bit of weight, so cleary the trainer was wrong... I find that people who don't agree with weight loss surgery (usually people already fit to some degree) tend to be very negative. Alot of people on here eat around 1000 calories a day

tell your trainer to look up WLS - specifically the band.

i told mine when we first started working together to do so when i got the same story.

then i told him, i hired him to get me fit & tone.....to leave my nutritional well being to my bariatric team. i wouldn't even let him weigh me - only take my measurements; because like my nutrition - the scale was an issue w/me and my surgeon.

your doing fine! keep at it.

Confused, you're almost at goal and are clearly losing weight. The PA at my band doctor's office said it's possible for your body to go into starvation mode if your calories drop too low, and that I shouldn't go below 1,000 calories a day. I average around 1,100 and seem to do well at that level.

one needs to get an accurate BMR done when active with exercise:

BMR Calculator

starvation mode is thrown around a lot, and really it's more about finding the right amt of calories that result in weightloss, while not damaging or disrupting your metabolism.

it's kind of hard for obese individuals to go into starvation mode - but that's just my take.....lots of pros/cons on the subject.

for me - i have to eat for the exercise i do; anything less than 1100 calories a day stalled me.....

Luluc,

Do you think it's better to calculate the BMR for the weight you are now or the weight you would be to be a normal BMI? At my current weight and activity level I'd have to eat nearly 2,800 calories to maintain. At my goal weight I'd need to eat 1,800 calories to maintain. My 1,100 calories a day would be good for healthy weight loss by somebody at my goal weight. I'm sure I ate at least 2,500 calories a day before banding. Sometimes far more than that. Gee, is it any mystery how I got so overweight? :)

ya know august - i thought the BMR was VERY high myself...but the more i read - it does make sense.

maintaining vs weight loss is a big difference.....which is why i say, 'finding' that # of calories per day vs your activity is nothing short of a math equation (hate math)....i had to play around A LOT to find that magic #.

not a one size fits all deal:) YIKES if it were that easy:)

I'm so grateful for the band. There is no way, no how that I'd be able to be happy at just 1,100 calories a day without it. Pre-banding it was tough to stick to a 1,500 calorie diet which is generous as diets go. I'd have to eat a stick of butter and maybe a pint Ben and Jerry's to get back to my pre-band calorie consumption. Mmmm...butter and ice cream!! Needless to say that my evening snack will be a Protein Shake with lots of ice before I run off to ice cream land!! :)

thank you everyone, to fill everyone in I got rid of the trainer. Not because she was complaining about how I ate, but because she told me I was fat and lazy. If I'm fat and lazy now my god what was I before. She was also like if you would have meet my before you done surgery you would have never needed to do that to yourself. I have been going at it on my own and the weight thing has stalled out for now. Thanks again to everyone.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
