Bush Vetoes Stem Cell Bill - Thanks Goodness We Are Saving Those Discarded Embryos

Recommended Posts

Stem cell research could fix my hearing. I also am upset at his continued opposition of this stuff.

Good points being made. Except for the Bullseye Barbeque Sauce report. I don't know about that. I will have to do a taste test and report back.

The "chocolate" underwear remark is pretty dang funny.

But Bush, he's not funny. He's a train wreck. And he's taking our country down with him. Have you been reading about the things that his appointee to the Supreme Court (mostly Roberts, although the other one is nearly as bad) has been saying lately?

What has his new appointee been saying? I know his Attorney General has been in the news quite a bit....!

I am prepared cast my vote for Bullseye as well. It is about the best commercially available BBQ Sauce that I've found. I like to use KC Masterpiece for full body soaking, however, because they sell it at costco in 30 gallon drums.

As for Bush, I'm now to the point of just trying to hold my breath until his term is over. I keep passing out, but this is only a problem when I'm driving.

By the way, did you hear? Barbara Bush has now asked for a DNA test to make sure Dubya is really hers. Now that's just sad.

I'm all for Bush screwing up. The more mistakes he makes and the more Americans he pisses off, the more voters will rise up in anger and strive to replace him with someone from the left wing (or as left as the Democrats go, which isn't very far in my opinion).

And you're all wrong about the BBQ Sauce. My homemade secret recipe from scratch is the mother of all BBQ sauces. A little sweet, a little smoky, a little spicy. Just like me.

I've just read that there is going to be stem cell research going on at one of the universities in my Province. One donor alone has given 15 million to the research fund. This is good, I think.

Lucy's Barbecue Sauce

1 large red onion, chopped

4 garlic cloves, minced

1/2 cup olive oil

1/2 cup Laphroaig single malt scotch

10 oz Tomato paste

1/2 cup cider vinegar

1 cup honey

1/2 cup Worcestershire sauce

1/2 cup Dijon mustard

1/2 cup soy sauce

1 cup hoisin sauce

2 tablespoons chili powder

1/2 tablespoon crushed red pepper flakes

In a large saucepan on low heat, saute the onions and garlic with the olive oil for about 12 minutes, sweat the onions, but don't over-saute then. Deglaze with the scotch. Add the tomato paste, vinegar, honey, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, soy sauce, hoisin sauce, chili powder, and red pepper flakes. Simmer uncovered on low heat for 30 minutes. Voila!

Mark: multiply everything by 120.

Isn't the issue more about who should do the funding, not if it should be done? Didn't the veto indicate that federal funds could not be used, but the $$$-rich pharmaceutical companies are free to conduct research using their own funding?

If this is incorrect, I'm sure someone will set it straight.

Lucy I can tell just by reading the recipe (thanks for posting by the way) that it is great. Your recipe includes the basic barbeque sauce recipe ingredients that I use. Whenever I use it, I get rave reviews. I will print your recipe, try it out soon and give you my report.

Btw, have you ever slow-cooked a roast (beef or pork) for most of a day and then shredded or chopped it and smothered it in that basic sweet/spicy barbeque sauce, heated it throughly and kept it warm in a chaffing dish and served it with soft mini Buns on the side, as an appetizer? You'll make friends and influence enemies.

Mark, for your purposes, use half a cow or a whole pig.

Oh, no, mousecrazy! No sense injecting FACTS into the discussion.

(In case anyone hadn't yet guessed, I'm being sarcastic)

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
