My surgery is scheduled for May 11th, only 7 days away! This pre-op diet is a real b***h though... my surgeon required a 2 week Protein shake diet, and only a bit of grilled chicken if I had a headache...

I will admit, because I must keep myself accountable, I have cheated 3 times. Tortilla chips on day 2, 4 oreos on day 4, and half a milky way on day 5... As a disclaimer I did not intentionally buy these foods or have them around but I live with roommates and these were all things they put in the "freebie" basket. I walked past them once, twice, a dozen times... but eventually I caved.

Now that being said, I don't think I've done a horrible job overall as I have lost 11.2 pounds in 7 days. And since the last hiccup I have been perfect. I suppose I wanted to write this topic because I have this overwhelming sense of "I JUST WANT TO EAT!" So much so that I can't wait for the surgery to happen because that is sooner I get to eat normal food. I wanted to leave the food addict behind but it seems to be lurking within me more than ever. I find myself watching food videos, looking at grocery store ads online, etc.

My question to you all is... how many of you feel this way? how many of you felt this way prior to surgery and how are dealing with things now?

I know how you feel! In a addict to and worried about being hungry after! But EVERYONE says they aren't hungry for months afterwards! This is so encouraging to me!

I had to make a concious effort to stay away from the food Network during my pre-op diet. Post-op, it's not so bad,

I'm 2 weeks post op and have been on liquids for a month now. You're right. It sucks!! I too had the occasional bite of whatever I was cooking during my pre-op diet, but that will change after your surgery. The consequences for not following the surgeon's plan after are too high. This is what I keep reminding myself to get me through it.

Pre-op diet IS a bitch. You're right about that. Hang in there. I'd love to tell you it gets "easier" soon, but between the surgery and the post-op diet, you have trying times ahead. The most important virtue during these next few months will be patience. It's a long road ahead, but it will be worth it in the end.

Listerine is your friend. It's nasty but it works. Gargle with it, use the pocket spray, suck on the breath strips.

NOTHING tastes good after a healthy dose of it so it will kill your cravings for sure.

I already know that I'm going to "alter:" my pre-op diet. Based on my BMI only I'm suppose to do a 16 day liquid diet prior to my surgery. I'm suppose to start the diet the day before my birthday...I will only be doing a 14 day diet :)

It was hard. I cheated once, eating a 1/2 of a quesadilla. And I made a conscious decision to eat the night we celebrated my husband's 40th birthday. Did perfectly fine otherwise, and lost 14#'s and the doc said all was perfect for the surgery.

I'm 6 days post op and not wanting to jeopardize the procedure (and lack of desire) keeps me focused. I long for something when I see it (like yesterday when my hubby grilled) but am fine doing without it. I know eventually I should be able to have somethings, just not everything.

I totally get where you are coming from...I admit to cheating a little bit, nothing awful. I have lost 3 lbs. since May 1 :) But I hate the food commercials and no one is allowed to talk about food around me :) lol We can do it, just think of what we will get and we will eventually be able to eat most of what we want again, within reason! :) I still have just over a week (13th) to go and so far I haven't gotten really mean...feel like that may come when I have to stop my NSAIDs...not sure how well I can handle both hunger and pain :)

My pre-op diet is 2 shakes, lunch and Breakfast and a Smart Ones for dinner (or the like)....was having a hard time with that so my nutritionist said I could add up to 3 Snacks a day, like a boiled egg, string cheese, lf cottage cheese, nsa yogurt, or 1 oz. of chicken. In my area Kroger carries their CarbSmart yogurt which has been really good and only has 3g sugar and like 9g Protein and good flavors.

I am having a harder time getting in all the water/liquid that I need too...even with adding flavor...so I think I am slightly dehydrated, but I am working on it!

WE CAN DO IT!!! Good Luck

I have my surgery in two days and I cheated today ???? I feel horrible

You are a-okay! Mine is in a week and I've cheated 3 times during these Protein shakes! Just make sure if you're going to cheat off it, choose HEALTHY options! You're doing just fine! Don't kick yourself when you're so close!

@ I'm sorry to tell u this lol but the food addict won't go away u must control what u eat unfortunately after the first few weeks cravings will come back and like before surgery u have to decide what u will eat and what u won't be careful follow instructions so u don't hurt yourself while u heal I'm a bit over two months post op and because food is everywhere it's hard it smells good it looks good etc it helps to always have things u are supposed to eat at the ready so u don't give in to temptation good luck to you and remember this surgery really doesn't fix wanting or cravings in the long term it's still mostly up to us

I have a question about the pre-op diet. I am on the 3 month 1200 cal. Diet and my sugar has dropped several times. I have adjusted my long term insulin. How will I keep it from dropping on the liquid diet? Will the Dr. Take me off insulin? Help! I'm worried about this.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
