I made a posting on here a few days ago concerning my right eye and retinaoschisis. I can never spell it right. Went to the eye doctor today and I have a bubble in the central vision between two layers of the retina. I got another shot in the eye which is normal, please don't freak out. It is now noted in my chart that they may now be considering surgery on my right eye. The surgery would require a gas bubble to go where the vitreous gel once was and for me to lay facedown for approximately 10 days. The hope is that the gas bubble would help get rid of the bubble and put the retina layers in place. In June they're going to do a die test on my eyes which I have had before. . The purpose of it is trying to determine where the Fluid is coming from. They are also going to be trying me on another very expensive medication which insurance will cover in my case. It may or may not help. I have about 100% sure that I'm not diabetic or that high cholesterol plays a role in this

My eye doctor is aware that I am considering sleeve surgery and she actually told me that I may want to consider putting it on hold and focusing on this eye. It basically boils down to which is more important. We will know more about this I in a few months.

I'm still planning on my May 4th consultation.

All I know to do right now is pray and continue going forward.

If and when you do go forward with sleeve surgery, the surgeon's staff will inquire about what previous surgeries and treatments (meds, etc.) you have had recently..........Sooo......you may want to run the information about your eye past them now, to find out how it may or may not impact any weight loss surgery and recovery.

Added note:

Surely you could still move forward with the consult for WLS........but in my humble opinion......there is no.... "which is more important."? Get your eyes taken care of !!!!

You will need to to be able to consume and absorb all the nutrients and medications necessary for healing your ee. You needd to discuss with your WLS if this is optimal after WLS.

I would move forward with the consultation. If they are doing a thorough H & P (history and physical) you should have ample time to discuss your eye situation. I would bring as much information from your eye docs as you have and all contact information to share with the WLS. The discussion should indeed be "What's more important." I too am leaning towards the eye issue taking priority, but I would specifically ask how WLS, recuperation and a new eating lifestyle will impact taking care of the eye situation.

The first time I went thru the wls (band) consults, I had a terrible infection in my foot that required 3 surgeries of its own. You could see the bones and tendons. I didn't have wls until it had healed but it took long enough that by th e time it was, I was thru with all the prep and ready to go. This time I had a picc line in (6 mo of IV) and they did the surgery anyway. I just had to wait until I was well enough. In both cases, the wls was very easy (comparatively). So yes I agree; keep going thru the consults.

Still going through the consult May 4th. I will bring up the eye to WLS doc. We will know more on my eye at the beginning of June. The eye is not an easy case at all. Wish I could do WLS then eye within same time frame but I have to remain facedown posture 10 days, including sleeping on tummy. That will not be possible.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
