Everyone gets nervous and anxious right before this surgery. Take some big deep breaths, read a book, listen to music, anything to get your mind off of it.

For me I focused on the end result and how exciting that would be. It actually helped get rid of the nerves.

Good luck!

@@lisaanewme67 I was given a Johnny to change into and my nerves got the best of me. I told the nurse I couldn't do it and left. Lol. I laugh now but that day I cried all day. I have spoken to my doctor and he is willing to still do the surgery so I just have to organize myself again and get some time off work.

Bellaloly;

That is my story TOO~~~HAHA! I had an appointment the day before surgery and listening and wondering and trying to deal with all the pre-op/post-op info, my nerves got the better of me and I convinced myself I could do this on my own. Mind you I have Cigna insurance and I hear it is hard to get approval with them. Anyhow after 2 years and some serious self loathing, I have decided that I just cannot live this way anymore, I don't like me, how I look, what I wear. I'm so self conscious and very sad that I got to this place but I decided to go back at it. I did my 6 months of Nutrition and Psych at the Beth Israel in Boston and I see my surgeon this Thursday 5/7 to discuss what to expect. I do NOT think I will be running off and out the door this time.

It's just such a very scary scenario when I hear "you could have complications" or "you could be nauseous and vomiting some days". It doesn't seem to make it an experience you want to go through. I realized it is a challenging surgery and I am not delusional about recovery and all it's going to take but some of the posts make you want to just RUN...and never look back. I asked myself a very serious question today and somehow the answer just came to me. I asked myself would I want to live my life forever this way, so unhappy as I am or go thru with surgery. I guess I got my answer and that is why I am seeing the surgeon on Thursday. Not so sure I would be able or want to live the rest of my life this way and that is where I started to figure out some of the answers to my questions.

Hi there, I had my gastric bypass exactly 15 days ago, and I understand the "being scared" part of this journey. All I can say is my experience, which is only two episodes of nausea, no vomiting, pain is now gone and the incisions are almost healed. I have lots of energy and have lost over 20 pounds. I had a bit of depression at the end of week one but it has lifted, I think this is such a huge choice that there was some let down. I kept to the Protein drinks (I used EAS from Target, mixed 50% with powdered dry milk) and they worked fine, lots of Water. Now, I am on the mushy food step, mostly cream of wheat Cereal with added Protein powder, string cheese, mushed avocado, sugar free Jello with a small amount of banana added in, a bit of flaky white fish, a bit of refried no fat Beans with a low fat cheese (very good), am going to try pumpkin pudding today made with Splenda. Scrambled eggs have not gone down well. I chewed some crackers but they swelled up and caused discomfort.

Now, I am just two weeks from being able to get back in the pool!! Good luck, it is worth it!!!

I LOVE Cream of Wheat with this fab little Protein Powder that I buy from my Dr's office. post-244889-14314973515787_thumb.jpg. There are a lot of other favors and I have not met one that I did not like. They have large jugs but I tried several of these smaller pouches first and the girls from the office brought me over a gift bag with a ton of them. Mmmmmm... Oh, I never liked CoW until after surgery. ???? surgery date: May 6, 2015????????

      I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
      I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

      I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

      I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

        That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
