????Any May Gastric Bypass peeps????

Recommended Posts

You guys want to hear something awesome? Ok, I LOVE pizza too... It was a weekly meal at my house. I started my pre-op diet on the 13th of March. My surgery was on the 31st. I honestly haven't had a craving for pizza (or anything unhealthy honestly) since about 5 days after I started the pre-op diet. I haven't been hungry at all since surgery. It is such a relief to be outside of surgery and know that it is working. I know I'll eventually get hungry again and I'm sure there will be some cravings but at this point it seems like this will be manageable. Wish you guys luck on your surgeries!

I'm so glad to hear that about the craving. Pizza is a weekly thing at our house too. I feel fortunate that my husband said there's no need to fix separate meals. He'll eat what I fix.
You are very lucky that you hubby will eat what you fix!! My partner is very picky, but I can be sneaky to.. So maybe it'll work out in the end. I'm the main cook for us and our son.. So I have total control of everything lol

I have severe acid reflux. I even had surgery to prevent it. It didn't work. My surgeon said the only way to get rid of it was the bypass. From my research people seem to lose more weight with the bypass.

I deal with acid reflux as well, and am looking forward to it subsiding after surgery..

It is so scary but so thrilling to know we will be on the losers bench really soon. I keep going over all the clothes I have from my skinny days with tags still on them.. I'll have so much fun shopping in my own closet again soon..

Hi!! My surgery is May 13. I'm still smoking and surgeon won't do surgery if I'm still smoking! I've tried to quit. I'm so disgusted with myself! They will test for the chemical that remains in your system after smoking. I need help!! :( it's hard to be excited when I'm scared that I can't quit!!

I'm scheduled for May 4th as well! I had cancelled it due to fear and then rescheduled it. I had my mind set on the sleeve, but my surgeon suggested bypass. This site is really helping me to get over my fears. Thank you all for sharing.

@@Sweetjess602 I've been struggling with the same issue. I bought one of those vapor pens or ecigs. I started out with 12mg then 6mg and now zero nicotine. I think it helps me just to see the smoke coming from it. It also helps to do deep breathing exercises as well as remind yourself of the benefits. I'm happy that i no longer smell like an ashtray. lol. You can do it! Don't beat yourself up. Try reading The Easy way to stop smoking. It can help change your perspective about smoking. I hope this helps a bit.

I was very confused when my surgeon suggested RNY over sleeve but I talked to 2 of my friends who had the RNY and they both said it was the best decision they ever made and would do it again in a heartbeat. I was a smoker too for 25 years but I knew I had to quit. It has now been 5 weeks I have not had a cigarette. You can do it! If you want this bad enough you will do it, believe in yourself!

I can't speak from personal experience but is it possible to cut one or two out everyday until you're off completely. I'll pray you'll be able to quit.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
