Surgery 12/31/14

Back to work 01/05/15 ---- just 5 days later

I went to back to work on day five and it was great. No one even knew I had surgery... still don't know. I work at a desk, so no manual labor or lifting. I wore "business casual" clothes with a binder (girdle thing that I wore for the first ten days under my clothes). It worked for me, but I know we are all different. Good luck!!!

My surgery is the 23rd and I have only taken 3 days off ... The 23rd is a Thursday and I plan to be discharged Friday according to pre admission... Saturday, Sunday, and Monday off back to work Tuesday. I have a desk job as well but I also work from home with a flexible schedule. So if I need to take an hour nap I'm going to do it. I'm excited and nervous good luck everyone.

I was out 5 work days. I had my surgery on a Wednesday. Discharged from the hospital on Thursday. I went back to work the following Wednesday. I honestly think getting up and moving around as soon as I could can AND as often as I could greatly improved my recovery time.

Thank you for posting this, because I have been worried I am not taking off enough time. I am a school teacher and my surgery is scheduled for 4/29 a Wednesday, and I'm hoping to go back on MOnday....If I take it easy do you think this is realistic? Thanks for you opinion in advance =)

@@timely We are all different, but like I said in my post the sooner you can get up and get moving the better. I walked as often as they would let me in the hospital. When I came home on Thursday I would get up and just walk around my house for 5 to 10 min. On Friday I was walking outside in my neighborhood 10 min at a time. I did this 4 to 6 times through out the entire day. Saturday I was at the gym walking on the treadmill at a slow pace. I was only on pain killers the day of surgery and Thursday I took one Norco. Nothing after that. Good luck on your journey.

Hello! My surgeon stated he will keep me off anywhere from 4-6 weeks minimum. He wants to allow time for proper healing, follow up appointments and adjustments to my eating habits. I say file for FLMA and short term disability if you have it. Your surgeons office will fill out all of the paperwork for you. Whatever you do, listen to your body and if you don't feel ready to return when scheduled don't. Good luck with your surgery!!!

Already spoke to HR at my job. For me it falls under short-term disability. So 60% of pay is not kick in and till I'm out for eight days. So the designated time that the clinic I am using is set up for 10 to 14 days are basically two weeks. So they require the use all my vacation time and then and they eight I get 60% of my pay for two days.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
