Worried,Qt. Smoking/gained weight,surgery around corner.

Hi Everyone,

New to group so far I really like it. :) Hoping I can get some opinions on what to do in my situation. Im so scared the surgeon will cancel my surgery. For almost a year I have been on phentermine for weight loss & then chantix to quit smoking. Both actually making me quite sick at times but I kept on because I want to have surgery. I have quit smoking & feel great its been 4mos for that now. Unfortunately I started overeating it seemed as though my weight stayed stable for some time but now recently I have gained 6-10 pds im not quite sure as I have used 2 diff scales and have Fluid retention off/on. The surgeon wanted me at a certain weight for surgery and now it is highlighted on my preop papers for surgery the weight they are expecting this month on the 16th :/ I am worried I am doomed. Of course I really am hoping they won't cancel. Can someone tell me how strict they are on that as far as weight goal? Also any ideas on how I can get these pds off btwn now & then? Any input would be great because im kind of in panic mode now. Thank you

Have you started a pre-op diet yet? All surgeons are not the same. Some require one, some do not. Some say 10 days, some say 14. Then some may say only liquids the day before. I'm supposed to be on a full liquid diet 2 weeks prior. My surgeon had not said one word about it, just the health educator nearly a year ago. But I'm doing it anyway.

And if you follow it, you will drop weight pre-surgery. I've done a week modified, meaning I'm allowing one regular meal per day. Everything else is Protein shakes and other non sugar liquids. I've dropped 6lbs in one week. Of course I exercise as well. I start full liquids tomorrow. I'm scheduled for the 21st.

@@Destiny66 hello I don't know how strict your program is but my surgeon was very strict if u gained he wouldn't do the surgery 6- 10lbs isn't horrific get on south beach phase one today no carbs sugar pasta rice bread etc proteins and vegs only no soda no alcohol exercise as much as u can u should lose most of it hopefully if your only up a 1 lb or 2 they will overlook it lol good luck to u

Ty for your responses Ladies. Desertgirl no pre-op diet for me it seems. They just want me to do liquids night before. Im actually scheduled for the 28th but going in to sign papers and talk w/surgeon the 16th. Pretty much I figured I should get on a liquid diet quick also so that is what I am starting today. Shelly I wish I knew how strict my doctor is really, no clue. Hoping I can loose as much as possible by then & well if I'm a couple over praying hes going to be understanding to my situation. Definitely not going to touch any of the things you mentioned. Omg carbs I think I have always loved those more then sweets but I can do it,have done it before. Going to pick up some Protein powder finally today. :)

The last week hasn't been bad. Right now I don't mind the Protein shakes and I've kept one meal a day. Plus I've finally seen the scales go down! The last 4 months have been very frustrating for me.

The only thing I was told at my pre-op from the surgeon was no food or drink after midnight. The health educator told me about the pre-op diet last spring. So I'm choosing to do it anyway. Even though the dr didn't mention it.

Well that's good desertgirl :) I have yet to mix the Protein in going to p/u today some of that. Sorry those last 4 months were frustrating. I can probably relate in a way well different reasons I guess. I guess goes to show how badly we want to get this done ;) It's all going to pay off in the end. My friend just had it done few months ago and omg she looks great. I can't wait just to have the freedom to do things I used to do. :)
